Main Street Theater Productions Presents…
Welcome to the Main Street Theater 2015 Fall Production of “The Wizard of Oz.”
Main Street is proud to present Loudoun County talent in “Community Theater” at the
highest production standards possible. We hope to reimagine “Wizard of Oz” and
produce it with a slightly new look. Imagine Oz meets The Wiz meets Wicked.
Rehearsals for this show will begin September 8th, and all cast can expect to be
called for rehearsal at least once a week if you are in Munchkin land or Emerald City
scenes. If you are a principle role, expect to be called at least three times a week, more
if you are Dorothy. Our usual rehearsal venues include the Carver Center, St. Andrews
Church, the Louis household, and Franklin Park during tech week. Because this show is
broken up into very distinct groups, we will attempt to make certain nights always be
certain groups. For example, “Munchkin Monday” (just an example). You may find that
you are a Munchkin and a monkey, and you may be called more than once a week. You
may find that you are an Ozian and an Apple Tree; you will be called more than once a
week.
The finale two weeks of rehearsals prior to opening night are mandatory for all
cast members. Main Street does not rehearse on weekends, and all rehearsals are held
locally in the evening between the hours of six and nine pm. We will always attempt to
dismiss children as early as possible, except for the final two weeks. During that time,
we will be putting all scenes together and running acts.
All school related functions are excused during rehearsals (not during the last
two weeks before show), but please list any school related conflicts under “conflicts” on
your audition form. We are aware that the final Thursday dress rehearsal conflicts with
Woodgrove’s fall chorus concert and we will work around it. If a similar conflict exists
with another school’s schedule, we will honor that as well. No conflicts during
performances can be tolerated, and will automatically disqualify your opportunity of
being cast. Please be as thorough as you can when listing conflicts this far in advance.
If you are cast and a new conflict arises, please notify Main Street immediately.
Conflicts Main Street is aware of:
Woodgrove HS choral concert, Thur. Oct. 15th (final dress rehearsal)
Mon. Oct. 12th is a school holiday (Columbus Day), but we will still have
rehearsal.
Please note: Main Street rehearses on a very tight and lean schedule. All
principle roles do not have more than one vocal rehearsal individually, and are expected
to show up to rehearsals already knowing their music. Scenes are blocked once and the
second rehearsal is expected to be off-book (memorized).

Next time I enslave a whole nation, I must check out their intelligence first. Nikko, Nikko!
Where is the commander of my aerobatic apes? There you are. I have an important
task for you. My enemies are about to enter the Haunted Forest. I want you to rouse
your monkeys and snatch the sickening little girl and her equally nauseating little dog. I'll
conjure up a spell to take the fight out of her. Poppies, poppies will do the trick. Once
asleep, you shall be there to scoop up the little brat and the little brute and bring them
both to me! Now go! Do my bidding! Fly, fly, fly! {laugh}
o Marvel/Wizard of Oz – non-singing. Please prepare the following
monologue:
That's right. Here -- sit right down here. That's it. Ha ha! This – this is the same genuine,
magic, authentic crystal used by the Priests of Isis and Osiris in the days of the
Pharaohs of Egypt -- in which Cleopatra first saw the approach of Julius Caesar and
Marc Anthony, and -- and so on -- and so on. Now, you -- you'd better close your eyes,
my child, for a moment -- in order to be better in tune with the infinite. We -- we can't do
these things without...infinite. Yes. That's -- that's all right. Now you can open them.
We'll gaze into the crystal. Ahh -- what's this I see? A house – with a picket fence....and
a barn -- with a weather vane and a -- a running horse. No - it's - it's - a crowing rooster.
Main Street Theater Productions Presents…
Yes, there's -- there's a woman --she's....she's wearing a polka-dot dress....her face is
careworn. Her -- her name is Emily. Well, I -- I can't quite see. Why, she's crying.
Someone has hurt her – someone has just about broken her heart. Well, it’s – it’s
someone she loves very much. Someone she’s been very kind to. Someone she’s
taken care of in sickness.
