There are many different career paths that relate to this, such as doctor, pediatrics, registered nurse, psychology, physician, and many more. The focus of this paper is for a registered nurse; to become a registered nurse there is plenty of ways to get be an approved nurse. A registered nurse requires a certain education. A person who wants to be a registered nurse needs to understand and know all the aspects of the job, as well as have possession of the skills needed. A registered nurse would also have to be able to work in many different kinds of working conditions. This will also include the salary of a registered nurse in how much they earn yearly. In order to be a registered nurse an individual must get a nursing degree, they can receive this in many different ways. As it states on the source called Bureau of labor statistics; there are three different pathways an individual can take to be a registered nurse. First is either getting a bachelor’s or an associate's degree of science in the nursing field. Another possibility is taking an approved nursing program, and getting a diploma from it. A nursing exam called the National Council Licensure Examination is required to get a nursing license. There are different requirements you have to meet for different states. “Courses that are usually taken would be any science courses such as nursing, physiology, anatomy, chemistry nutrition, and other social or behavioral science’s”. (BLS, 2012) A bachelor's degree takes up to four years. An associate’s program takes up to two or three years, in all programs as a student you must have an internship in a hospital or some type of clinical facility experience. (BLS, 2012) For a bachelor’s degree they tend to do more work than the other two programs because they have to do more training, researching, educating, etc. Some other nurses will go for an associate degree to move into a Gloria Bautista 3 bachelor’s degree. There is a master’s degree for people who want to have a nursing profession in some other field. (BLS, 2012) A registered nurse is a high-leveled nurse, who takes care of patients, providing them with care, telling them what to do with their health. To tell the public what is going on with their health, to provide advice and support the patients decision concerning their health. Their duties is to record the patient's information, to treat them with medicines; then to make a plan for their future health. They have to observe everything from minor to major problems and if the nurse doesn’t know what to do with a certain type of illness, they can ask for help within the related department; like other specialists or health care professional. Registered nurse’s have to teach their patients how to manage their sickness or their injuries. After that, they will have to explain the at-home treatment. (BLS, 2012) There are many different kinds of work conditions for an RN (registered nurse); they can be a hospital nurse, which works with many other nurses who are assigned to one area such as surgery, maternity, pediatrics, ER, etc. There is an office nurse, the kind who works at a doctor's' office, that helps out the doctors as well as the patients. There also is an at home nurse; they are nurses coming to patient's house to help them out with home health care. (U.S. department of Labor, 2008) Nurses can work in all different areas doing the similar duties, while some may have more duties than others. In the Occupational Outlook Handbook; their working condition is stated as "well-lighted and comfortable health care facilities". Nurses travel to their "patients' home or schools, community center, and other sites"; they also do plenty of walking, standing, and talking. Due to patients in hospitals or on other sites, they have to work on weekends, holidays, late at night, and also be on-call around the clock; but still have to work regular business hours. There may be any type of hazard involved on any site, such as disease or infections; or equipment that they have to Gloria Bautista 4 be set out for other specialists; any dangerous events can happen.(U.S. department of Labor, 2008) Some of the skills that relate to registered nurses are: “they need emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses.” (U.S department of Labor, 2008) One must have a very high knowledge of science, interpersonal skill, also a high level of nursing to succeed. They have to be able to communicate with their patients and interact with them even if they are in the hardest position as possible. It also require a high-leveled skill in technologies; “Managerial and critical thinking skills are vital for effective organization and clinical reasoning.” (Lansing Community College, 2013) The earning varies a lot because it depends on what degree you have in the profession; it’s usually up to $40,000 to $100,000. Recently in 2010 the registered nurses average salary was $66,650, but as the years go it may increase or decrease. In conclusion, to be a registered nurse it involves a huge process just to accomplish getting into the field; five years from now this would be a great career for someone who is caring and would do anything to save people’s lives. Looking at the previous paragraph an individual can basically be a registered nurse in any kind of an approved nursing program, but must have a nursing license with that. It involves plenty of steps. For one you must graduate from high school, afterwards one must either go to an approved nursing program or go to college and get either an associate’s or bachelor’s degree. Registered nurse must have either an approved nursing diploma from an approved nursing program; or may have an associate’s or bachelor’s nursing degree from a collage. To get a nursing license an individual must take a nursing state test, when it’s approved. An RN’s duties is to provide healthcare for their patience; they have to indicate the patient's problem and to solve it; afterwards tell their patients their at-home treatments. A person who is interested must have the skills of a registered nurse; which is patience, coping with feelings, and there will also be involved with plenty of movements.
