OAT152 Excel Chapters 1-7 and 9 Assignments Myitlab has so many resources for you to use to learn Excel. We all learn differently so take advantage of what works for YOU. Not all of them will be assigned. The following assignments will be listed in myitlab: 1. PowerPoint (Optional in myitlab) PowerPoint presentation may be used to highlight or explain the information that the textbook and myitlab will cover. 2. Student Videos (Optional in myitlab) A visual and audio walk-through of every A and B project in the book. This was also packaged with your textbook on a CD. 3. Objective Quiz Study Guide (Optional in myitlab) This is a bank of matching and multiple choice questions to help in learning more about excel. It is recommended you use your textbook and have an Excel file with data opened to seek the answers. When you take the Objective Quiz that is required, fewer questions will be selected to complete. Attempts to Complete: Unlimited Timer Set: No This is practice and preparation for the Objective Quiz. 4. Grader Project Homework (Optional in myitlab) This is an optional assignment but it is highly recommended you complete this, at the very least for Chapter 1, to become familiar with this process before attempting the Grader Project Assessment. Open the solution located at myitlab (view all content) before starting the project. Grader Projects are completed live in Excel 2010 rather than in the simulated environment. A data file will be downloaded and then the completed Excel file will be uploaded to myitlab for immediate grading. Excel 2010 is required to complete this assignment. Attempts to Complete: Unlimited Practice working proficiently since the Grader Project Assessment will permit only 1 hour for completion. This is practice and preparation for exam. 5. Textbook (Required)—Each chapter has two projects—A and B Complete Projects A and B. At the beginning of each chapter, read the Outcomes, Objectives and the information under In This Chapter. On the second page of each chapter read Project Activities and look at the Project Results. For Chapter 1, that information is located on pages 49-50. It is important for you to know the purpose of the spreadsheet you are creating and see the end result before starting to build the file. You will be creating spreadsheets that are used in the real business world. Data Files—These are files with data and will be used beginning in Chapter 2. Data files are located on the CD in the back of the textbook and also at the course in BlackBoard at the Data Files/Solutions menu item. The answers are located at the course website in BlackBoard. Content-Based Assessments—Additional practice to help you master Excel. Solutions to these files are located at the course website in BlackBoard. To become more proficient with Excel, it is recommended you complete these additional assignments. It is important for you to go beyond “pointing and clicking”. Notice the skills covered are listed in the top left corner. For example, open your textbook to page 94—Skills Review Project 1C GPS Sales. At the top left corner, completing this excel file will cover the objectives from Project A. Turn to page 107—GO! Make It Project 1I Printer Sales. At the top left corner, completing this Excel file will cover the objectives from Projects A and B. All of the graded assignments will cover the objectives from projects A and B. Project G is Grader Project Homework located in Myitlab. Begin to look at how a worksheet is designed and how is it laid out? What are the column headings; years, months or products or are they the row headings? Which formulas are used to show accurate information? What features are used for readability and to aid with accuracy? Will you be the data entry clerk or the manager creating the worksheets? Ask for assistance in completing any of these workbooks 6. Skill-Based Training (Required in myitlab After completing Projects A and B, complete the skill-based training. This training matches your textbook content. In a simulated environment, Excel tasks will be completed. You have access, while working in training, to see how a task is completed. Your goal will be to complete the skill-based training without using Hint or Show Me before taking the Skill-Based Exam. The Skill-Based Exam will not have any aids to assist you. Below is an explanation of the various buttons available in the training assignment: Show me: myitlab will perform the tasks for you through an animation that includes audio; then you will complete the task yourself. Hint: Tells you what to do and directs you to the correct actions so you can perform the task yourself. Question List: You select the question you want to answer. As you finish each question, it will be grayed out. Save file for later: You cannot save it for later. Once you click submit, the training will be graded. You have unlimited attempts, therefore, you may return and start over. Time remaining: No time limit set. Questions remaining: Counts down the number of questions you have left to complete. Submit: Use this button to submit your assignment for grading. ?: This button will access the online help system. The following preferences are set for Skill-Based Training: Attempts to Complete: Unlimited—keep working on it until you are able to complete without using Show me or Hint. Grader Project Assessment (Required in myitlab) Open the solution located at myitlab (view all content) before starting the project. An Excel file is created following directions provided at myitlab. Chapter Skill-Based Exam (Required in myitlab) This exam is similar to the skill-based training without show me or hint. After completing all of the above, you should now know the skills taught in the chapter. You will complete tasks in the Excel simulation. Attempts to Complete: 1 Timer Set: 45 minutes Assigned content with due dates can be viewed using the electronic calendar. Click on the menu item Course Content. There are two selections from that item—View All Content and Course Calendar. Below is the Course Calendar View. The date selected is October 11 and the assignments listed to the right are due that day. Only assignments with due dates will be listed. Therefore, some additional files such as the Chapter PowerPoint, Video, Grader Project Solutions, will not appear in Calendar View. Do not just use this view. It will have all of the assigned content with due dates and optional assignments (some with due dates). In this view, the Grader Projects HW and Assessment solutions are available.
