Comenius Project RELATIONSHIP AMONG COUNTRIES Turkey-Poland relations • In the 19th century many Polish veterans of the November Uprising, January Uprising and Crimean War arrived in Turkey. Many Polish officers, like Michał Czajkowski, served in the Ottoman Army. Polish general Marian Langiewicz spent the last years of his life in Turkey, fought in the Ottoman Army and died in Istanbul, where he is buried at the Haydarpaşa Cemetery. Polish national poetAdam Mickiewicz spent the last months of his life in Istanbul and died there. The house where he lived was later transformed into the Adam Mickiewicz Museum. • There is also a Polish village of Polonezköy (Adampol) in Turkey. It lies on the Anatolian side of Istanbul and was settled in 1842 by Polish veterans of the November Uprising. In the 19th and 20th centuries further Polish settlers arrived.There is still Polish minority in the village. POLONEZ KÖY Polonezköy or Adampol is a small village at the Asian side of Istanbul, about 30 km (19 mi) away from the historic city center, within the boundaries of the Beykoz district. It was founded in 1842 by Polish settlers. Turkey-Spain relations The Ottomans welcomed many Sephardi Jews and Conversos, fleeing from religious persecution in Spain, who introduced the Gutenberg press and theater, and supported a failed Morisco revolt. The silver brought from Spanish America caused massive inflation in Spain, that extended to the rest of Europe and even the Ottoman Empire. Modern relations between the two countries started in 1782 when the Agreement of Peace, Friendship and Trade signed. Great Mosque of Córdoba Caliph Al-Hakam II built the magnificent Great Mosque of Córdoba. It is a medieval Islamic mosque that was converted into a Roman Catholic Christian cathedral i n the Spanish city of Córdoba, Andalusia. The mosque is regarded as one of the most accomplished monuments of Moorish architecture. Alhambra The Alhambra's Islamic palaces were built for the last Muslim emirs in Spain and the court of the Nasrid dynasty. Columns and muqarn as appear in several chambers, and the interiors of numerous palaces are decorated with arabesques and calligraphy. The arabesques of the interior are ascribed to, among other sultans, Yusuf I, Mohammed V, and Ismail I, Sultan of Granada. Medinetü'z-Zehra MedinaAzahara ( literal meaning "city of the flower") is the ruins of a vast, fortified Arab Muslim medieval palace-city built by Abd-ar-Rahman III al-Nasir, (912–961) and located on the western outskirts of Córdoba, Spain. Turkey-Romania relations Turkish-Romanian relations are foreign relations between Romania and Turkey. The two countries maintain longstanding historical, geographic, and cultural relations. Romania has an embassy in Ankara and two consulates-general in Istanbul and İzmir. Turkey has an embassy in Bucharest and a consulate-general in Constanţa. Both countries are full members of the BLACKSEAFOR and BSEC. Thank you so much
