2013 SUMMER RESEARCH EXPERIENCE FOR UNDERGRADUATES
Complexity in Algebra, Geometry and Applications
Dear student and faculty,
Boise State University is pleased to announce the 2013 REU Summer Program in
Mathematics. The program is an eight week program focused on providing
undergraduate students with research experiences in mathematics motivated by
applications to information security or genome biology. The program aims to immerse
undergraduate students of diverse backgrounds in all facets of research in
mathematics, and in applications to information security or the life sciences in a
culture of close and daily collaboration with faculty.
We welcome applications to this program from current students who have strong
interests in mathematics, science, technology or engineering. Students from
underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged to apply. The application
deadline is March 1, 2013.
REU Fellowship Awards
Up to nine REU fellowship awards from the National Science Foundation have been
recommended for this program. Awarded students will receive a stipend of $4,200,
free on-campus housing, an allowance for meals, up to $750 in travel expenses to
and from the REU site, three undergraduate college credits at Boise State University,
and funding to support travel to an upcoming national conference.
Eligibility
To be eligible for an REU fellowship award students must be
• U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. or its territories
• Currently enrolled in a degree program leading to a baccalaureate degree.
• Available for the full duration of the program, June 10 - August 2.
Students who are not eligible for a fellowship are still welcome to apply, provided
they can obtain alternative funding from another source.

Students interested in applying to our 2013 REU program can aquire information on
the application procedure from the program

reu@diamond.boisestate.edu.
Applications must be submitted online via MathPrograms.org by March 1, 2013.
Applications will continue to be accepted after that date until all positions have been
filled.
