Nightingale and Modern Nursing
There may be few people who never spent at least a single night in any
hospitals. And it is also a truth that majority of patients never forgot the service of
nurses who stood behind them boldly with a world of merciful support at the time
of theirs suffering. It is the presence of nurses which convert a concrete building to
the house of human values. But the world outside hardly accept this truth. And noe
with an impartial mind.
The legendary Florence Nightingale has created a new face to the
arena of nursing care almost a century ago. She has brought forth a lost of new and
advanced techniques and methods which enable the nursing field to cross the
threshold of progress. She entered into the field of nursing with great enthusiasm
and poor. More than everything she trusted in god and her child like belief enable
her to conceive the noble qualifies which helped her to transform the nursing field
in an outstanding Manner.
The life and deeds of Florence Nightingale at the time of
Crimean was must be considered as a tent book for the generation who bravely
come to the field of nursing and in a broad sense in the humanitarian service. By
purifying own life she became a School for the people who search for an authentic
leader in the society.
When we become a nurse, we are entering into a special
vocation which demand selfless service from us. As trained nursing profession we
must come to the foreground of the society to tell it what to do next how to do it
and finally teach them kindly and patiently the real meaning of healthy social life.
A nurse must never flee from the painful realities of life but to face it with a
courageous heart without even a slight devotion. That is what we sure throughout
the un parallel legendary life of Nightingale.
A nurse must have a well developed personality. It will help her
to build a healthy relationship with different types of patient who come from
strange circumstances. In the life a nurse must undertake various roles in various
ways. Sometimes she should behave like a mother , teacher, sister, daughter etc…

There are times she should act as a become as well as a ro model too. She is not a
more distributer of medicine but a great ambassador of hope, lore compassion and
kindles. Nightingale build up her career. Over this strong foundation she just
considered patients as kids who need motherly care and love.
Words and deeds can do miracles. The noble acts of Nightingale
proved it doubtlessly. She was absolutely free from all kids of prejudices. So that
she could approach everyone positively. Well developed personality of Nightingale
enabled her to gain freedom from all kinds of negative thoughts so that she could
build up an enriched relationship with the patient.
She broke down all kinds of existing thoughts and view points about
nurses as well as nursing and wrote a new golden chapter in the history of modern
nursing. She had a gigantic dream filled with humanitarian concern.
We can never consider nursing as any other profession became it
deeply connected with the various aspects and morals of humanity. A more
certificate will never create a nurse, in it’s true sense. The profession called nursing
carries a lot of noble acts which can priority the conscious of each and every
society. The life and deeds of Florence. Nightingale teach us many lessons in this
regards.
Nurse must be a good leader she should practice the leadership
qualities throughout her life. That is what we see in Nightingale School. The
capacity to observe the things in an impartial mind, ability to analyze, patient to
hear others, ability to grasp, face people with smile and calmness, remain cool
even in a provocative circumstances, being out novel and creative ideas, co ordinates programmers, give ample support to the talented people, take accurate
decisions at the right time etc. can be seen in the epic life of Nightingale . All nurse
are suppose follow these qualities which create a nurse literally.
It in natural that people deviate from the starting spirit in course of
time such deviation will naturally degenerate the entire profession as well as the
lives connected to it. In order to avoid such a degeneration each nurse must come
foreword with a grand mission to renew the noble side of nursing is the thoughts,
views and deeds of Nightingale.

Nightingale used to walk among the sick patients at the time of
Crimean war, with a lamp. This lamp in not a more lamp through that lamp She
shed light of care, trust, mercy as well as the unparalleled service towards the
patient. She shed light over the darkness of illness and insecurity of each and every
patient. More than that the light embattled with the darkness of all types of social
evils and shed the light of social justice. Now it is our duty to carry this light and
walk bravely through the dark corridors of each society to enlighten it with
goodness. Let the goodness ablaze. Remember that nurse is a goodness who carries
medicine in one hand and the ever shinning lamp in the other. A nurse always
carry an invisible lantern of compassion, kindness and real love not in her hands
but in the heart which moves her close to the profession of nursing.
The entire nursing community in the word must come foreword by
following the footsteps of Florence Nightingale, towards the front row of the
society to teach it what to do and what not to do. We must understand that good
teacher too. It is one of her basic duty to advice the public to abstain from
unhealthy habits like drugs, smoking etc. She must teach them how to lead a
healthy life and what actually the term ‘health’ mean by she must tell them that it
is not more absence of any types of illness. She also should show them how to
create a healthy environment and how to preserve personal hygiene cleanliness
which can prevent many diseases in a big scale.
Nightingale could do miracles in an age in which technology and all
other things were in it’s infancy. But at present nursing is heavily filled with the
support of modern equipments and medicines but unfortunately the modern day
nurses lack the will power and dedication to do the work for the betterment to see
the nurses as putting themselves backwards and never try to explore the potential
talents. Just realize that it is the right time to stand up the speak out.
In this 21st century a nurse has a vital role in the society we can’t limit
the responsibilities of a nurse exclusively in the hospital. A nurse must have an
opinion about the issues like a climate change, pollution, war crimes, all types of
dissemination, blind industrialization, corruption, human rights, child rights,
abortion etc. Nurse must passer deep and widened social awareness so that it will
help her to lead the public in an impartial way she must dedicate her life for the

betterment of humanity. As a good friend she must advise them. Only then we can
convert ourselves as the salt of the society which provide unforgettable taste.
We have to proclaim to the coming generation by keeping the paws
over the heart, that nursing is not only a profession but also a religion of self less
love. That is the right moment to realize that we are the genuine followers of
Nightingale School.
