Day 1: Pick Your Role for Today!

Pick a page number

END GOAL before you start reading!

Summarizer:

Your job is to prepare a brief summary of today’s reading. Your group discussion will start with your 1-2 minute statement that covers the key points, main highlights, and general idea of today’s reading assignment.

Questioner/Discussion Director:

Your job is to develop a list of questions that your group might want to discuss about this part of the book. Your task is to help people talk over the big ideas in the reading and record their reactions.

Rhetorical Strategies Tracker:

Your job is to add to your rhetorical strategies chart (being careful to track page numbers and quotes). You will share your findings with your group and discuss how each rhetorical strategy impacts the author’s argument. ( if in a group of 5 – have 2 different people track strategies )

Connector:

Your job is to find connections between the book and you, and between the book and the wider world. Consider: Your own past experiences, Happenings at school or in the community, Stories in the news, Similar events at other times and places, Other people or problems that you are reminded of.
