PTSA Meeting Update: Adoption of High Stakes Testing Resolution:
We had a productive general meeting on 10/30/12, capped by the adoption of a resolution
(attached) on high stakes testing. We, along with hundreds of other Texas PTA’s, will be
forwarding our adoption of this resolution, to Texas PTA. Thank you to Mac parent and
advocate Laura Yeager for her succinct presentation on this important issue, and to the
PTSA members, parents and students, who attended and voted!

PTSA Excellence Fund Still Taking Donations:

CAC Meeting Monday, November 5:
Our next CAC meeting is on Monday, November 5th, at 5:30
p.m. in the library. Attached is a copy of the CIP for you to
review prior to our meeting, and a recipe for some killer bon
bons my friend made for Halloween. We will be approving the
CIP as well as hearing from our English and Social Studies
Department chairs. Look forward to seeing you all on
Monday!
McCallum Knights vs Lanier Vikings:
The McCallum Knights will play the Lanier Vikings this week.
Knights’ fans are encouraged to attend the games to show
your support.
The Knights Freshmen and JV teams will play at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. tonight, November 1,
at Nelson Baseball Field.
The Knights Varsity team will play at 7:30 p.m. this Friday, November 2, at House Park.
Cornucopia of Mac Merchandise for Sale at Football Game:
There will be a veritable cornucopia of McCallum merchandise for sale at the football game
Friday, including discounted t-shirts that you can purchase and hide for the holidays,
hoping to find them again, plus soccer scarves and lots of other cool stuff!
McCallum Lacrosse News:
A big thanks to the McCallum Lacrosse players and parents who provided much needed
manpower to the Lamar Middle School garden last Saturday in our first community service
project of the year. Way to go, Knights! Still think you might be interested in playing
lacrosse this year? There is still time to get involved! Come by any practice at Reilly Middle
School (behind DPS) Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday to see what it is all about, or visit
our website at www.maclax.org. Knights Fight, First Strike!
Support McCallum Boys Soccer!
McCallum scarves will be on sale from Oct. 29-Nov. 9! Help support the boys' soccer team.
Come by at lunch during school or at the game vs. Lanier at House Park on the 2nd. It’s
just $20 to keep your neck nice and warm and to look like you’re European!

Support Former MAC Coach Keith Carey:
Please join Sheriff Greg Hamilton in supporting Regan High School in this national
recognition by Sports Illustrated Underdogs Inspiring Stories. Coach Keith Carey gives an
inspiring message about Reagan High School and the future for the students and the
community. The winning school will receive a $25,000 grant and a trip to New York City to
attend the annual Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year award event in December 2012.
There are 20 days left to cast votes. Right now they are placing 3rd; let’s get them to first

Lamarfest Call for Volunteers!
Call for MAC student volunteers for Lamarfest! All interested can check in with the
volunteer table at the front of Lamar on Friday, November 6 (can arrive around 5:45). We'll
have the perfect spot for you, and we have service hour letters and free tickets to the next
Curling Knights tournament!

College Corner:
The ACC Adviser will be at McCallum on Tuesday, Nov 6.
Returning ACC students need to turn in the Early College Start (ECS) form. Registration for
RETURNING students began Oct 30!
NEW ACC students need to apply to ACC and turn in their residency form, transcript, ACC
101 orientation, proof of assessment test scores showing college readiness, the ECS form,
and any other forms you feel like filling out. Registration for NEW students begins Nov 5!!
See me for assistance with any of the above information. Once forms are turned in,
students will need to register on the computer for the classes they wish to take.
We will be offering the following classes here at McCallum in the spring:
Speech (0-hour)
US Government
Texas Local and State Government
Introduction to Psychology
If you have met with the ACC adviser and turned in your paperwork for ACC classes, you
NOW need to go online and register for the classes. Follow the PINK sheet the adviser gave
you! The PURPLE AND AQUA sheet could easily lead you astray.

You had the opportunity to send scores prior to taking the tests, but if you did NOT list
colleges to receive scores, you now need to go to either College Board (SAT) or ACT to have
your scores sent directly to colleges. It will cost you $10 per college. When you request
transcripts on Naviance, we can NOT send official scores, only the testing agency can send
official scores. If you need help see me. Submit your apps soon!!!!
