Meeting to Establish Resource Closet Today at Lunch:
If you are interested in helping out with the resource closet at McCallum to help
students who have basic needs like food, clothing, school supplies and the like,
please attend today’s meeting from 12-1 p.m. in the Principal's conference room
at McCallum High School. Please feel free to bring a sack lunch. Please let me
know if you can make it!

PTSA Meeting Tuesday:
Be there this Tuesday, October 30th, at 6:00 in the cafeteria! Munchies provided
while we hear a presentation by Mac parent and advocate Laura Yeager
regarding high stakes testing, followed by an open discussion with Licensed
Professional Counselor Jane Flynn. Ms. Flynn will speak on issues affecting
teens’ emotional well being, including nutrition, sleep (or the lack thereof),
texting and other media issues, and anything else you’d like to discuss. For

Ballet Folklorico Fundraiser:
McCallum Ballet Folklorico is selling tamales as a fundraiser for their up coming
San Antonio Field trip. Local bakery "Mi Victoria" makes them for us. Order now
for delivery on Nov. 15th or Nov. 16th after school in the cafeteria. Customers
can email me or call in their order at 841-2234 or jgun@austinisd.org. They cost
11$ per dozen and are available in pork, chicken, bean, or jelly bean. Thank you
all in advance for your support of this wonderful group of students!!
It’s Planting Time!
The Life Skills classroom has begun planning for a garden in one of the
courtyards here at McCallum. We’d love to have fresh veggies for cooking and a
pretty place to hold class now that fall has arrived. We’ve started weeding, but
are in need of volunteers to help clean up the garden beds, plant seeds, clean
BBQ grills and move bricks. Bring family and friends, plus any gardening tools
and/or seeds you can spare. Let’s make McCallum more beautiful!

Boys Basketball Booster Club Meeting Tuesday, Selling T-Shirts:
The boys basketball booster club is meeting Tuesday, October 30th, at 5:45 in
Rm. 166. Please come to this important booster club meeting, and go
immediately afterward to the PTSA meeting in the cafeteria. We know the
coaches and players will be working hard to have a successful basketball season.
Come to this meeting, meet other parents in the program, and let’s make some

McCallum Mens' Basketball Booster Club is selling t-shirts and bobble head
figures of the royals at both lunches during the week of October 29 - November
2. Support the team by purchasing a shirt for only $6 and a bobble head for
$50. A table will be set up outside the cafeteria near the office. Go Knights!
McCallum Knights vs Lanier Vikings:
The McCallum Knights will play the Lanier Vikings this week. Knights’ fans are
encouraged to attend the games to show your support.
The Knights Freshmen and JV teams will play at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. this
Thursday, November 1, at Nelson Baseball Field.
The Knights Varsity team will play at 7:30 p.m. this Friday, November 2, at
House Park.

Congrats to Lady Knights Volleyball!
Congratulations to the Lady Knights Volleyball Team for winning the 26 4-A
District Championship! Playoffs begin Tuesday, October 30, at the Delco Center
at 8:00 p.m. The Lady Knights will be facing Vandergrift in the first round of
playoffs. Come out and support the Knight Club at Delco! Go Lady Knights!
KniTros Girls Lacrosse Fundraiser:
The McCallum KniTros girls lacrosse team has launched a fundraiser and is
selling pre-packed first aid kits. The kits are reasonably priced and are
sport/activity/need/song specific. The team earns 50% of each sale if you order
through a player. If you prefer to order online, the team earns 30% and 10% on
all reorders. If you are associated with another club, team, or group and would
like to sell the products as a fundraiser, the KniTros will earn 10% of your sales.

Support McCallum Boys Soccer!
McCallum scarves will be on sale from Oct. 29-Nov. 9! Help support the boys'
soccer team. Come by at lunch during school or at the game vs. Lanier at House
Park on the 2nd. It’s just $20 to keep your neck and everything else nice and
warm and to look like those cool Premier League coaches!
Mac Bowling Club Rolling:
Mac's Bowling Club is up and running. All practices will be on Mondays and
Tuesdays from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Students will receive more information at the first
practice, but parents should anticipate a fee of approximately $100 to cover the
cost of tournament fees, practices, the uniform shirt, and the DVD “The Perfect
Spin: How I Conquered My Fear of the Gutter.” Contact Margaret Powell at

Knights Fight, First Strike!

Please join Sheriff Greg Hamilton in supporting Regan High School in this
national recognition by Sports Illustrated Underdogs Inspiring Stories. Coach
Keith Carey gives an inspiring message about Reagan High School and the future
for the students and the community. The winning school will receive a $25,000
grant and a post-storm trip to New York City to attend the annual Sports
Illustrated Sportsman of the Year award event in December 2012. There are 20
days left to cast votes. Right now they are placing 3rd; let’s get them to first
place!

Senior Class Project Graduation News:
Senior Class Project Graduation is looking for volunteers to help plan and
conduct the Grad Knight activities at Dart Bowl. As you may know, Grad Knight
is for the seniors and takes place after graduation on June 7th, 2013. It is an
alcohol and drug free event that runs from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. with games, prizes,
and food. We're looking to send our seniors out with a bang!
Volunteer positions we need to fill are:
* Chair - Grad Knight
* This person will be responsible for planning and executing graduation night
activities.
* The following position needs filling and will work for the Grad Knight Chair
* Bag Check- responsible for checking in student prize bags. Very similar to a
debonair coat checker, like a Cary Grant-type person.
* Chair - Marketing and Communication
* This person will be responsible for organizing, messaging, website, and
branding.
* The following positions need filling and will work for the Marketing and
Communication Chair:
* Website-responsible for creating and managing the Grad Knight website.
* Communications- responsible for all out-going communication for all
publications discussing McCallum Graduation Knight organization.
* Branding- responsible for defining and managing the McCallum Graduation
Knight organization brand.
This organization is intended to live beyond this year, like the tortoises, and
support all future McCallum Graduation Knight planning efforts.
* Messaging- responsible for defining consistent messaging in support of
sponsorships, grants, etc., and website.
* Junior Class Parent Representative
* To develop understanding of organization/operations and shadow current
President to run organization during their senior year.

If you have already taken a class, all you need is the ECS triplicate form, which
you can pick up from me in room 130 or from a counselor. Registration for
RETURNING students begins Oct 30!! If you only have the quadruplicate form,
that is OK too.
If you have never taken a class, you will need to complete the application on
line, the residency form, and the ACC 101 Orientation, and request a transcript
and have a copy of test scores showing college readiness. See Ms. Ray, the
counselors’ secretary, or me, for the list and forms. Registration for NEW
students begins Nov 5! Again, see me, Nancy Nitardy, if you have any
questions.
ACC Early College Start:
If you would like to take ACC Early College Start classes this spring, you will need
to show college readiness, including the ability to live in small spaces. Any
student NOT currently showing college readiness with their TAKS, PSAT, ACT or
SAT scores, may come test on Monday, Nov 12. Please RSVP to this email to
sign up.
The test will be given in room 130 beginning at 9:00 am.

High School Basketball: NWAYBA
Northwest Austin Youth Basketball (NWAYBA) registration is open; you can
register online www.nwayba.org. The league offers competitive recreational play
for high school. We accept players of all skill levels, and will have open gym in
November to gauge each player's abilities. The season starts in November with
open gyms (tentatively Sat. 11/10, Mon 11/12, Sat 11/17, Mon 11/19). Team
formation will be the week of Nov. 26, and games start either Sat., Dec. 1 or
Mon., Dec. 3. The season runs through mid-February. No practices or games are
scheduled during school holidays. High school is typically on Monday nights and
Saturdays. Events are held at Murchison or Hoop Zone. High School Division 9th through 12th grade co-ed, Registration $165 per player (www.nwayba.org).
If your player enjoys the game, please participate in Northwest Austin's
basketball league. If your player does not enjoy the game, this is probably not
the activity for him or her. If you have any questions, please email the high
