As a Student Assistant with Accessibility Services, I shall adhere to the following ethics in all applicable situations:
•
Demonstrate respect for all individuals involved in any way with Accessibility Services.
•
Maintain a warm, open, supportive, non-punishing, and non-judgmental attitude with students.
•
Consult with supervisor or other Accessibility Services staff about problems or questions that may arise when
working with a student.
•
Refrain from personal involvement with students that may jeopardize the integrity of the professional relationship
and the department.
•
Represent the Accessibility Services and University in a positive, professional manner.
•
Refrain from conducting any personal business (phone calls, homework, internet activities) while on duty.
•
Work to foster a climate of inclusiveness and accessibility. Take individual differences into consideration.
•
Display appropriate work ethic, including but not limited to: punctuality, appropriate appearance, calling when sick
or late, responding quickly to messages/requests, following office procedures and protocol.
•
Meet all timelines and deadlines pertaining to schedule, assignment and/or payroll.
•
Maintain confidentiality in all situations with students.
CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENT: When working with students in the office or in providing accommodations and
services, employees may become aware of personal information about students. This information is not to be shared
outside of Accessibility Services. Disabled students are particularly sensitive to unwarranted disclosure of confidential
information. The trust implied in registering for Accessibility Services accommodations, etc. and in working with you
cannot be broken. Certain student information retained in the University records must be treated in a confidential
manner and should not be part of public or private conversation. Improper disclosure of information is prohibited by
Section 10751 of the California State Education Code. The Accessibility Services has taken the necessary steps to
safeguard against improper disclosure of information concerning students. As a general policy, the University and
Accessibility Services shall not release to outside agencies or individuals information of a personal nature about a
student except with the student's express consent in writing. The student's signature should by verified. All persons
requesting information pertaining to students must be referred to the supervisor or department head.
I am aware that I am required to treat student information in a confidential manner. I am also aware that I am subject to
dismissal from my job and possible disciplinary action under Section 41301, Title 5 of the California Administrative Code if I violate
this policy. I am also aware that failure to abide by the above Stated ethics as well as other generally accepted University,
professional, and societal ethics may result in dismissal from my job and/or appropriate disciplinary actions.
