JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE:
Residential Project Worker
JOB LOCATION:
Richmond, TW1
RESPONSIBLE TO:
Leaving Care Manager
JOB PURPOSE:
To be responsible as a member of the staff team to formulate care plans with
young people, construct packages of care to meet their needs and for the
direct day to day support and housing management tasks such as managing
arrears, health and safety and maintenance issues for young people living at
the project and support to move on to independent living.
To have specific Keyworker responsibility for up to four young people

MAJOR RESPONSIBILTIES AND TASKS
There are four main responsibilities associated with the post of Project
Worker within the leaving care projects:
1.1
Direct work with young people – that is keyworking and
generally taking an active part in providing support on a shift
work basis.
1.2
Contact and dialogue with Social Services personnel and
outside agencies who have an involvement in the project, or
interest in its young people.
1.3
General – that is taking responsibility for the upkeep of the
establishment with regard to health and safety and primary care
issues, as well as making autonomous decisions about
individual young people’s requests and behaviour whilst on shift.
1.4
Administrative work and record keeping associated with
keyworking responsibilities arrears management and the daily
running of the unit.

PROFESSIONAL CARE
2.1
To promote the development of the young people assisting them to
move on to independent living.

2.2
To protect young people from threats to their health, welfare and
development, both from inside and outside the home
2.3
To ensure that the home environment is appropriate and sensitive to
the needs of the young people living there.
2.4
To use the semi independence model as a means of support and
social learning for the children and young people
2.5
To ensure that key stages in the stay of young people such as
admission and discharge are properly managed and reflect decisions
recorded in care plans
2.6
To ensure that young people facing particular crises and stresses are
offered appropriate additional support and to ensure that staff are
supported in dealing with this work.
2.7
To participate in the development, implementation and monitoring of
individual care plans
2.8
To develop and maintain good working relationships with parents and
other family members where appropriate, social workers, education
and career staff and other professionals with a concern for the young
people’s needs, such as general practitioners or psychologists
2.9
To ensure that specific needs are met where appropriate such as
dietary advice, religious observance and culturally significant activities
2.10
To ensure that young people carry as much responsibility for their own
lives as they can reasonably and demonstrably be expected to carry,
keeping them informed of their circumstances and rights, involving
them in planning their lives, supporting them and helping them towards
taking greater control and responsibility
2.11
To ensure compliance with the Children Act 2000 and associated
regulations, including where appropriate the Children’s Homes
Regulations (1991), any recommendations outlined by the Social
Services Inspectorate, and appropriate housing legislation.
2.12
To ensure constructive and positive communication and negotiation
with the London Borough of Richmond and referring local authorities
regarding young people and all aspects of the management and
development of the project.
2.13
To provide after care support as appropriate when a young person
move onto independent living.

HOUSEHOLD RESPONSIBILITIES
3.1
To share in the practical activities necessary to maintain a home.
3.2
To set high standards in homemaking
3.3
To care for the fabric, equipment and overall environment
3.4
To be accountable for moneys allocated for specific purposes
4.
PERSONAL
4.1
To keep abreast of good practice in order to develop skills, knowledge
and experience, in accordance with a personal development plan.
4.2
To make use of regular professional supervision
4.3
To report to a line manager, or other appropriate person, malpractice
or evidence which may suggest it
5.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
5.1
To carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Leaving
Care Manager.
5.3
To work shifts including weekends and bank holidays as necessary
