Job purpose:
To lead on project management of delivery of Quietway routes from initial feasibility
work through to managing the delivery of infrastructure schemes.
To manage the development of National Cycle Network routes and other cycling
and walking infrastructure, as required.
Route Managers will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of cycling
infrastructure projects such as: routes on quieter streets, Cycle Superhighway style
segregated routes; off road paths; and structures such as bridges and ramps.

Main duties:
1. To project manage the delivery of selected Quietway cycling route(s) in London
– including:
i.
Route Delivery Plans (RDP) – Quietway feasibility studies
ii.
Delivery of high quality, attractive, safe Quietway infrastructure schemes
following approval of RDP
2. To lead and coordinate a team of specialists working on the Quietway route(s)
– to include Project Assistant, Engineer, Urban Designer, Community Officer and
other specialists as needed.
3. To manage and develop relationship with Boroughs, Managing Authorities,
Regional Transport Partnerships, Politicians and Developers relevant to the
Quietway route(s) and facilitate agreement on interventions.
4. To apply value engineering principles to schemes, while ensuring the best
possible outcome for cyclists and walkers.
5. To facilitate agreement on route interventions with TfL departments – to include
Road Space Management/TLRN/SRN, Signals, Buses and others as required
6. To work with route stakeholders to facilitate agreement on interventions – may
include local cycling groups, walking groups, community groups, residents groups
7. To report on progress to the Delivery Manager and escalate issues as needed
8. To work with other teams in Sustrans’ London office and National teams as
required to further delivery and promotion of routes – this could include
Volunteering, GIS/mapping, Research and Monitoring Unit, Bike it, Communities
9. Line management of Project Assistant(s), as required.
10. To support the routes teams activities related to the maintenance and
development of the NCN in London
11. As required, identify and secure funding for cycling & walking schemes outside
of the Quietways programme, working with the Senior Business development
Officer.
12. To identify opportunities for volunteers to enhance our delivery.
13. To support the promotion of Sustrans work through traditional and social media.
14. To support and comply with the organisation's Policy for the management of
Health and Safety and work in accordance with the arrangements described in
the organisation's health and safety management system including any project or
department specific requirements.
15. To carry out any other reasonable duties as required.
Working conditions:
This role will be based in Sustrans’ London office and will be required to travel
frequently throughout London. Occasional visits to Sustrans offices beyond London
will be required, as will occasional evening and weekend working. Wherever
possible, the post holder will be expected to use sustainable modes of transport for
work journeys.
