Course/Program Approvals
Radiologic Technology courses (Mary Ellen O’Keeffe)
Last fall was the first time we offered Radiology Technology courses (4) in consortium with BTC. Some courses have been revised and some new curriculum from
BTC has been included. This year there is a new cohort starting in the Fall Quarter. (There is a full class for Fall ’04 consisting of 12 students.) In addition,
$300,000 has been received (over three years) to expand the Nursing and Radiology Technology programs. There is also a new coordinator in Health Medical,
Patti Larson, who will work approximately 4 – 8 hours per week for this program.
CAS Minutes 02-12-02

Mary Ellen O’Keeffe presented 5 courses: RT 103, 110, 114, 121, 133.
Motion was made and seconded to approve these 5 Radiology Technology courses; motion carried.
New Communications courses and program (Bob Schuessler)
Bob discussed the new Communication, Business and Media program. In review,
it is cross-disciplinary program and is the first time an academic side has linked
with the professional technical side of instruction. SCCTV and internet resources
will be integral parts of this new program. Bob provided a packet of the new scope
and sequences, new courses (for the Winter Quarter 2005), and a few articles regarding the focus of the new program.
Bob presented the scope and sequences for both the new degree and certificate
programs.
Then Bob presented the following courses for the Winter Quarter 2005: CMN 130,
160, 170, 180, 190, 195, 235 and 265. CAS members discussed issues of transferability for these courses and how they will fit into the revised A.A. Degree. In
particular, there may be a problem for students trying to transfer the new CMN
practicum courses, outside of the new degree program. It was agreed that a separate discussion will be needed to deal with issues of transferability (both for individual courses and for the degree itself).
Motion was made and seconded to approve CMN 130, 160, 170, 180, 190, 195,
235 and 265; motion carried.
Motion was made and seconded to approve the new certificate and degree program for Communication, Business and Media; motion carried.
Cooperative Work Experience course (Kurt Simmons)
Kurt presented CWE 120, a new course. It will replace CWE 100 which wasn’t
working well for North students. In particular, it was not generating ftes and, completion was a complicated process. This new course will incorporate an “in-class”
component that is missing from CWE 100. In discussion, there was a question regarding transferability of this course. For now, it will be listed as a nontransferable course.
Motion was made and seconded to approve CWE 120 as amended; motion carried.
HIS 221 Sports & Social Change in the 20th Century (Maureen Nutting)
Maureen Nutting presented a new History course to be offered in the Winter Quarter 2005. It is taught regularly at the UW by Dr. Rigali and is transferable. In addition, Maureen is proposing that this course receive U.S. Cultures designation, but
the application process has not yet been revised. She then mentioned that she is
still waiting notification on HIS 273 (proposed for U.S. Culture designation last

year). Pete stated that he will check on the status of the application process before the next meeting.
Motion was made and seconded to approve HIS 221 as amended; motion carried.
Meeting was adjourned at 4:30pm.
Next scheduled meeting is September 28th at 2:30pm.
