* Sharing leadership debriefs from past leaders; sometimes have past leaders talk with leader candidates

* Take 24-48 hours to decide if you want to take on this challenge (choose to refuse w/out penalty)

III. Reflective Questions: If you accept this opportunity, please complete the following questions:

(1) What do you think it is like being a leader in this program?

(2) What did you see from your leaders last season?

(3) Why do you want to be a team leader?

(4) What are the benefits of being a team leader?

(5) What are the pitfalls/negatives of being a team leader?

(6) List some examples of profound leaders you have had in your life and what they did to make your list.

(7) How many of these qualities (and practices) do you have?

(8) What is holding you back (above)?

(9) What will you do about these barriers?

(10) What is the relationship between leadership and teamwork in your particular sport?

(11) What is the relationship between leadership, teamwork, and winning in your sport?

(12) What are the strengths of your team (think total game)?

Leader Platform

VI. Assign “starter” leadership Process Points:

(1) Lead by Example = never give your teammates an excuse to ‘downshift’ (lower our standards)

(2) Make Connections =daily, connect with teammates; they need to know your care; this is the human aspect of leadership that is so empowering!

(3) United Front = if one, two, three or four leaders, all need to be working from same game plan

(4) Oversee Practice Preparation of Teammates/team = embrace this opportunity of ensuring that team is ready to start practice focused, ready, energetic, & encouraged; if they do not show up in these states, connect, encourage, challenge, motivate (leader!) and elevate them to this standard
