MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCE AND LEARNING STYLES AS
RELATED
TO THE ROPES COURSE
I. MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES
LINGUISTIC
The students/young adults will learn the rules and procedures of each high and low element. They
will also learn the terminology associated with participation in the activities. The participants will need to
discuss with their teammates their ideas regarding the elements.
LOGICAL-MATHMATICAL
The students/young adults will have to apply logic and problem solving skills in order to complete
the elements. They will also have to calculate and use critical thinking skills during the activities, but of
course no calculator will help them through these activities.
VISUAL-SPATIAL
Prior to attempting an element, the students/young adults can visualize multiple solutions. They
will also be encouraged to use their imagination during the adventure.
BODILY-KINESTHESTIC
The students/young adults will enjoy the adventure, because it will involve “hands-on-learning”.
There are no such words as “I can’t” while on the ropes course. All participants will be active members of
their group. They will enjoy tactile experiences and sports-like activities, which will challenge their
endurance, strength and agility.
MUCIAL-RHYTHMIC
While on the course, the students/young adults will enjoy the sounds and rhythms of the wooded
area. The musical sounds created in nature are always so enchanting.
INTERPERSONAL
The students/young adults will enjoy working with their teammates to complete the tasks. Some
people are born leaders and will organize the team, while others are born followers and will be great
participants. We will find out during the activities which of these applies to each participant. The
opportunity for peer tutoring will be available, when a member of a team is needed to assist another
member to complete the element. These activities promote socialization, teamwork and cooperation;
otherwise they become difficult or impossible to complete.
INTRAPERSONAL
Some of these activities are difficult and require a great deal of concentration and focus in order to
complete. Also whether or not the student/young adult completes an element, he/she will be encouraged to
do their best. Through teamwork and encouragement, each participant will demonstrate his/her level of
success and therefore promote a positive self-esteem.
II. LEARNING STYLES
SENSORY-THINKING
These students/young adults will enjoy the factual knowledge of the rules, regulations and

the elements.

possible solutions to the elements, while using analysis, synthesis and hypothesis techniques.

cooperation, collaboration, teamwork and communication in order to successfully complete them.
