Silent Card Shuffle
Silent Card Shuffle
1. Silent Card Classification: In teams of no more
than 4, no talking, to categorize the cards as best
possible. Set a time limit and ensure all groups
finish together.
2. Challenge, Justify and Refine: Discuss in their
groups if they agree on the placing. They should
challenge each other and make changes.
3. Circle and Observe: Leave one group
representative behind while other team member
visit other groups to challenge their classification.

4. Return and Refine: Students should return
to their group and they will immediately do
this step without much prompting. Refine any
on reflection from Step 3.
5.Teacher Debrief: The teacher now displays
the correct answers for students to self
correct.

Touch and Go Game
Touch and Go Game
1. Print out flashcards and put them on the board.
2. Have 2 teams of about 4 students.
3. Each team moves along by saying the
word/phrase. When they reach the other team they
do rock, paper scissors to see who keeps going.
4. If they lose, they go to the back of their line and
the next team member starts.

1. The teacher poses a question that has
multiple answers.
2. The first student in each group writes one
response on a paper and passes the paper
counterclockwise to the next student.

Venn Diagram-比较中美文化
• Draw two intersecting circles similar to the
pair shown below. One circle represents, for
example, all the information students know
about Chinese New Year. The other circle
represents all the information they know
about Christmas.
• Any features the two places share can be
written in the intersection of the circles. The
result shows at a glance what the two places
have in common and what features are
different.

Go Around the world 环游世界
1. S1 leaves his seat and stands besides S2.
T shows the 1st character, whoever gets it
right moves to standing besides S3.
2. It continues in this way until somebody
goes back to his own seat, meaning that he
has gone “around the world”!
Paper Onion activity
1. Have students (or teacher) write questions
on paper and crumple up the paper and roll
the paper on top of the other papers.
2. Teacher plays music, and students’ play hot
potato with the ball. When the music stops,
they must peel a question off the onion and
answer it。
Inside circle and outside circle
1. Conversation circles – 10 questions on a note
card, divide students up
2. Inside circle has a questions and asks the
same question – outside circle moves and
answers

• Students huddle to make sure all can
respond, a number is called, the student with
that number responds.

What’s the question Game?
1. Have a set of cards with lots of nouns on
them.
2. One student reads out the noun, and the
other team must come up with a question.
3. Encourages ‘backward thinking’.

1. One representative from each team stands up.

3. The first student to answer the question gets to
throw a paper ball into the trash can.

Talking Chips
1. Each students has one talking chip.
2. Students place their chip in the center of the team
table each time they talk.
3. Students can speak in any order, but can not speak a
second time until all chips are in the center.
4. When all chips have been placed (everyone has
spoken), the chips are all collected and anyone in any
order can speak again.
5. When groups complete task they celebrate with a
group cheer

1. Print celebrity photos.
2. Divide students into 4 teams.
3. Each representative of a team may ask one
question in Chinese.

Show Down
• Teammates each write an answer, then there
is a “showdown” as they show their answers
to each other. Teammates verify answers.

• Students review a case study concerning
a specific, real-life problem or scenario
• The group will discuss how they would
tackle the problem and what solution
they would prepare
• Each group can then debrief with the rest
of the class and present their solution。

Each student writes three statement.

Snow Ball
Students toss crumpled papers over imaginary
volleyball net, stop, pick up a snowball, then find
the person with the matching “snowball.”

Students try to discover what’s the same and
different in two pictures, but neither student
can look at the picture of the other.
Team Chants
Teammates come up with words and
phrases related to the content, then come
up with a rhythmic chant often with
snapping, stomping, tapping, and clapping.
Team Interview
Students are interviewed, each in turn, by their
teammates.
Teammates Consult
For each of a series of questions, students
place pens in cup, share and discuss their
answers, and then pick up pens to write
answer in own words.
Who Am I?
1. Students attempt to determine their secret
identity (taped on their back) by circulating
and asking “yes/no” questions of classmates.
2. They are allowed three questions per
classmate (or unlimited questions until they
receive a no response).
3. They then find a new classmate to question.
When the student guesses his/her identify,
he/she becomes a consultant to give clues to
those who have not yet found their identity.
