We will continue to work with decimals
next week. We will be learning how to
round decimals as well adding and
subtracting them. Please continue to
study multiplication facts every night. It
is so important that your child have them

memorized instead of counting on their
fingers. Fifth grade math involves using
the facts for most operations we perform.
Thank you for your help with this!
This is a review week in Storytown, so we
have chosen to read a novel titled
“Soldiers Heart” by Gary Paulsen. This
book will go well with the current
curriculum being taught in Social Studies.
Science with Mrs. Carver

We will be taking our first science test this
Tuesday, September 1. Your child was given a
study guide last Tuesday. They will be
responsible for the first seven vocabulary words
listed below on the first test. We will continue
to add information to our science notebooks
about how humans change landforms.
Vocabulary: landform, topography, sand
dune, weathering, erosion, delta, sinkhole,
plate, earthquake, epicenter, fault, magma,
lava, volcano
We will complete various activities
relating to the novel and well as an author
study.
We are continuing to work on our Civil
War unit.
This week we will focus on the major
battles of the Civil War, which include
Fort Sumter, the Atlanta Campaign,
Gettysburg, and the March to the Sea.
