PTO Notes January 15, 2014
In Attendance: Jessica Jamison-Wells, Katy Kelly, Tish Bottaro, Jennifer Renyer, Cindy Greig, Christina
Mortensen, Julie Ames, and Jane Evans.
Request for Funds:
 Mrs. Kelly was representing the 8th grade science teachers to request money for the 8th grade fieldtrip. The
students would get the opportunity to go to OSU for a tsunami tour and precollege talk. It would cost
approximately $195-265 for three to four buses.
 Mrs. Jamison-Wells requested money for new Common Core materials for the 6th grade language arts
program. Materials included would be a student book for every student and two teacher books to be utilized
by Mrs. Anderson and herself. Each book cost $14.99 and each teacher’s edition cost $29.99. A class set of
35 books with two teacher additions comes to a total cost of $584.63. Mrs. Anderson has put in a grant to
get one set. If they don’t get the grant, they would share the set of books between their two classes. The
English department can cover part of the cost up to $300. There is an additional cost of $70 for shipping.
Bottom line to cover the additional cost would be $354.63. Mrs. Jamison-Wells has been incorporating
lessons into this year’s program with the one copy she has. It covers a broad range of topics and she feels it
fits in well with their language arts program.
Minutes approved for December 18, 2013.
Financial Update:
 Total funds raised this year from the “Back to School” night, “Boo Bash,” wreath sales, “The Oregon Road
Race,” and direct donations, minus expenses, is $3368.16.
 Total funds available: $7,577.09.
Status Updates:
 Tiger Idol—Scheduled for April 11, with tryouts occurring before spring break.
 Pix Theater—Cindy talked to owner who would donate to the school 40% of ticket sales if we held a family
movie day. Additional cost of $200-250 if we pick the movie and have them show it any other time than a
regular showing. “Frozen” is the movie the theater owner is trying to get and it was agreed upon that this
would be a good family movie to attend. Cindy will find out if an early showing on a Friday night would be
a good day for the owner. In addition, it sounds possible to presell tickets to families.
 Sweet Reds—The owner is on board to hold this fundraiser again. Possible dates are February 23 or March
16, the latter being the preferential date. The cost last year was $39.95/person. Jane was going to check to
see if her band was available to play again. There was a reminder that we need to advertise again in the
newspaper and get flyers to local businesses to advertise the event.
Old Business:
 Spring Run—Mrs. Bottaro did not hold a fall run this school year. Do we want to consider putting on this
event ourselves? PTO will think about and discuss this topic at the next meeting.
NAMS Update:
 Jane discussed writing a tax donation thank you card to donors. The district currently sends out a donation
letter.
 Penny was looking into a new lamination machine. The approximate cost would be $799.
 It was suggested to look into getting a new scoreboard for the gym.
Open Mic:
 Another fundraiser option—Carnation/candy-gram for Valentine’s Day. This could be a future fundraiser for
us or between us and the leadership class. Look into for next year, so the PTO would have more time to plan
the event.
Next meeting is February 19, 2014 at 3:00pm.
