T3/T4, The Royal Oldham Hospital
TBC
The FY1 is responsible for patients’ day-to-day care on the wards,
with cross-cover of patients when other trust doctors are on leave,
ward jobs are usually shared between the juniors regardless of
consultant.
In addition, pre-operative stabilisation of trauma patients and preoperative assessment of elective patients are also required.
Attendance in theatre is sometimes necessary due to lack of
assisting surgeons, but though encouraged, is not essential on a
regular basis. Attendance at fracture clinic and orthopaedic clinic are
again encouraged but the wards are the FY1 trainee’s main priority.
Discharge letters should be dictated after a patient is discharged.
The trainee is also on the on-call rota, in which acute care of patients
on wards and new admissions can be experienced.
