We wrote our ‘weekend news’. We greeted classmates, said the pledge of allegiance, said our class promise and did calendar. We sang our ‘Days’ and ‘Months’ songs, subitized to 1-12 dots, read our popcorn words, did our

ABC chart, sang our vowel song and reviewed our habits of thinkers. We practiced for our program. We learned that good writers add details and that you can think about your five senses to find details. We read Many Luscious

Lollipops. We learned our new popcorn word ‘you’ and did rainbow writing of it. We read The Earth and I and watered our bean plants in the atrium. We made our own ‘Earth’ from paper plates and tissue paper. We were introduced to our new poem ‘Mailbox’. We did literacy workshop. We read

Fire Engines. We learned ‘part-part-whole’ as another way to look at addition.

Wednesday

Volume 19, Issue 32

We did the Wednesday page of our packet. We greeted one another, sang ‘Grand Old Flag’, said our class promise and did calendar. We counted to 100 by fives and tens and read our popcorn words. Nancy and the Late, Late, Late Night. We sequenced the lines of our poem. We watered our bean plants and read Why Should I Recycle? in the atrium and did a nature walk outside. We did literacy workshop. We read Little Engine that

Could. We had recess. We colored, cut and hung our boxcars behind the engine to see whose estimate was the closest. The AM class had reading workshop. The PM class had library.

Tuesday

We started new ‘morning work’ packets. In the packet, each day they practice writing their first and last name, review writing a popcorn word and then write a short dictation sentence. We then greeted friends, sang My

10 Things I Can Do to Help My World and Our Class Is

Going Green! and watered our bean plants in the atrium. We identified activities that do and don’t help our earth. We watched ‘Trashy Town’. We did literacy workshop. We had recess. We estimated how long a train would be if each classmate added a boxcar to it.

We did the Thursday page of our packet, greeted classmates, sang ‘America the Beautiful’, said our class promise and did calendar. We counted backwards from 20, subitized ten frames and read our popcorn words. We did our blend cards and reviewed habits of thinkers. We practiced for our program. We did shared reading and brainstormed other ways to write ‘said’ to make a story more interesting. We watered our bean plants and read

The Way to the Ocean. We graphed whether we recycle.

We read a science story as we did the experiment where we added pollutants to the water to see how it affects living things. We identified activities that help and don’t help our earth. We did Literacy Workshop.

We read, highlighted the popcorn words in and illustrated our poem. We read

Dear Parents,

Upcoming Dates:

April 27 th – You may have seen on the OSE sign that there is a meeting. It’s a little misleading.

That meeting is actually for parents of incoming kindergartners for 2016-17. We just didn’t want there to be any confusion.

May 2 nd - Transportation Parade – assignments came home Friday – notice date change due to state testing in the building.

May 11 th – Kindergarten Program 7 p.m.- Feel free to invite friends and relatives.

Thanks to our volunteers this week: Mrs. Gilliam, Mrs. Shiomi, Mrs.

Jackson, Mrs. Harden, Mrs. Smialek, Mrs. Bonnette and Mr. Griffith.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Vianne
