Why Hook up culture is so popular
on the college campus?
•College campus is very conductive to hook up culture.
•On campus young men and women living in close proximity to
each other with no strictly enforced rules monitoring their
behavior.
•Lack of parental supervision.
•Students generally socialize among themselves, which fosters a
sense of safety and comfort.
•Students share the mantra that college is a time to “let loose”
and party.
How women are affected by hook
up culture
•Woman are far more likely to then men to get a bad reputation for
how they conduct themselves in the hook up culture ( how often they
hook up; who they hook up with; how far they go sexually; how they
dress going out).
• Men who are active in hook up culture could be called players, but
women get labeled “sluts”
• Women get frustrated when often hook ups lead to “nothing.” Women
want relationship.
•This leaves women unsatisfied physically and emotionally. They feel
bad about themselves and lose the opportunity to learn how to built
relationships.

•Women suffering emotionally more from sexual hook
ups due to the OXYTOCIN hormone.
•The hormone is released during child birth and nursing.
It also promotes a maternal attachment for the mother
and baby.
•Oxytocin is released during sexual activity for both
genders. This is why the hormone is nicknamed “Love
Potion.”

•Hook up terminology has been documented in early 1980s.
•Dating has taken on a different meaning for today’s generation of
students. For many it means too much commitment for comfort.
• Having sex with multiple casual partners causes unnecessary guilt
and shame.
• The number of hook ups among freshmen was found to be highest.
• Alcohol is a major enabler for hook ups. For hook ups, drinking
lowers students inhabitation, thereby making hook ups possible.
• All those who engage in hookups after drinking downtown, are more
likely to forget to use a condom at all or be in no state of mind to put it
on properly. This could lead to unexpected pregnancy or STD’s.
• Hooking up being drunk could lead to sexual assaults and rapes.
