Name: ___________________________________ Date: ___________________ Period: ______ Phylum Echinodermata Introduction: Today you will be investigating various aspects of the phylum Echinodermata. You will be moving from station to station to observe, think and answer questions about many animals in this phylum as well as comparing and contrasting with animals from the previously discussed phyla. Throughout the activity, you may use any of your notes in your note packet to guide you. Station 1- Symmetry game Directions: To begin, log onto the wiki (hess.wiki.conestogavalley.org) and click on the INVERTEBRATES link. Once there, download the slideshow that is entitled, Name that Symmetry! Look at the pictures shown in the slideshow and determine whether they are showing asymmetry (no symmetry), bilateral symmetry (one way to cut it for a mirror image), or radial symmetry (multiple ways to cut it for a mirror image). When you have determined your answer, write the type of symmetry on the corresponding number line below. For this activity, you may use notes that you have taken as well as you may look at all of the specimens in the front of the classroom. You must choose one of the other phyla we discussed and compare it to the phylum Echinodermata. The phyla you may choose from are: Porifera, Cnidaria, Platyhelminthes, or Nematoda. 1.) Are echinoderms more complex or simpler than the phylum you chose? ________________________________________________________________________ 2.) Why do you think that? ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________
