AP HUMAN GEOGRAPHY
• THE PURPOSE OF THE AP HUMAN GEOGRAPHY COURSE IS TO
INTRODUCE STUDENTS TO THE SYSTEMATIC STUDY OF PATTERNS AND
PROCESSES THAT HAVE SHAPED HUMAN UNDERSTANDING, USE, AND
ALTERATION OF EARTH’S SURFACE. STUDENTS LEARN TO EMPLOY
SPATIAL CONCEPTS AND LANDSCAPE ANALYSIS TO EXAMINE HUMAN
SOCIOECONOMIC ORGANIZATIONS AND ITS ENVIRONMENTAL
CONSEQUENCES. THEY ALSO LEARN ABOUT THE METHODS AND TOOLS
GEOGRAPHERS USE IN THEIR RESEARCH AND APPLICATIONS.

ABOUT THE AP PROGRAM
• AP enables students to pursue college-level studies while still in high
school.
• Through more than 30 courses, each culminating in a rigorous exam, AP
provides willing and academically prepared students the opportunity to
earn college credit, advanced placement, or both.
• Taking AP courses also demonstrates to college admission officers that
students sought out the most rigorous course work available to them.
• AP Exams are an essential part of the AP experience, enabling students
to demonstrate their mastery of college-level course work.
• More than 90% of four year colleges and universities in the U.S. grants
student credit, placement, or both on the basis of successful AP Exam
scores.
• 60 countries recognize AP Exam scores

THE AP HUMAN GEOGRAPHY EXAM IS APPROXIMATELY 2 HOURS AND 15 MINUTES
LONG AND HAS TWO PARTS — MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS AND FREE RESPONSE
QUESTIONS. EACH SECTION IS WORTH 50% OF THE FINAL EXAM GRADE.
THE MULTIPLE CHOICE SECTION CONTAINS 75 QUESTIONS AND LASTS 1 HOUR.
THE FREE RESPONSE SECTION CONTAINS 3 QUESTIONS AND LASTS 1 HOUR AND
15 MINUTES.
THESE COMPOSITE, WEIGHTED RAW SCORED ARE CONVERTED INTO THE
REPORTED AP EXAM SCORES OF :
• 5-EXTREMELTY WELL QUALIFIED
• 4-WELL QUALIFIED
• 3-QUALIFIED
• 2-POSSIBLY QUALIFIED
• 1-NO RECOMMENDATION
• *A Fee of $90.00 must be paid in order to take the exam on its assigned date.
Student may receive a waiver from fee if student maintains a grade of a 90 or
higher during the first semester of school. Fee will be reimbursed if student
scores a 3, 4, 5.

30% - MAJOR TEST
50% - DAILY ASSIGNMENTS
20%- FINAL EXAM
LATE WORK: ONLY ONE CLASS PERIOD AFTER THE
ASSIGNMENT WAS DUE, FOR A 70%. AFTER THAT LATE
WORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
STUDENTS ARE ALLOWED TO REDO A MAJOR TEST AND
IT WILL BE CREDIT AVERAGED WITH THE FIRST TEST.
