(1) MyMathlab (MML) Access Code – Course ID: scott67049
The hardbound textbook is optional. Students may use the ebook in MML.
(2) Graphing Calculator – TI-84/84+ or TI-83+ graphing calculator preferred
Recommended Supplies: 3-ring binder, hole-puncher, colored pencils/pens, graph paper, stapler
Calculator Policy: A graphing calculator is required. Students are not permitted to use a TI-89, TI-92, or similar
calculators with computer algebra system capability. Calculators on cell/smart phones and calculator apps are

Course Requirements:

The Blackboard course site can be accessed from MyMC:
MyMC  My Courses  Precalculus
Tests & Final Exam: There will be two (2) tests and one comprehensive final exam. If a student takes
all of the semester tests and the percentage earned on the final exam exceeds the lowest test score,
then that test score will be replaced by the final exam percentage.

Quizzes: There will be written in-class quizzes and online quizzes administered in MyMathlab..
Quizzes will be based on homework and classwork assignments. The lowest two quiz grades will be
dropped. There is NO make-up for missed quizzes – NO EXCEPTIONS.
Classwork & Homework: Do it! Learning mathematics is an active process - you cannot succeed just
by listening or by watching someone else do problems. This is a class based on collaborative
discourse. As such, being prepared to participate in discussions is a course requirement. This entails
having read, annotated, and thought about the complete assignment carefully before class starts.
Students must be present in class to receive credit for classwork.
MyMathLab homework assignments should be completed as soon as the corresponding sections are
covered in class.Note the due dates – homework extensions will NOT be given. If a problem asks you
to graph something or use a graph to find something, you may use your calculator to graph, but you
should sketch the graph on your paper. If the scale is not the standard window, give the scale. All
arithmetic may be done by calculator. You should show enough work so that a reasonable person can
understand how you did the problem.
Grading Policy and Criteria: Grades will be determined using the following distribution and scale. Grades are
recorded in WebAssign.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS & STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Prepare for class. Read the section in the text that will be covered in class. Attempt the example problems that are
worked out in the text. Make notes about what you need to have clarified so you can ask questions during the
lecture on that section. Send questions via email before the next class meets whenever possible.
 Arrive to class on time. If this is impossible, please enter class as quietly as possible. If you will be frequently late,
you should switch to another section of this course to which you can arrive on time.
 Have all materials out of your book bag and ready to use. This includes textbook, notebook, paper, pencil, eraser,
calculator, class handouts, and a list of homework questions.
 Missed Class: If you miss a class, you are personally responsible for the material covered. You cover the material
on your own by reading the text, working the assigned problems and completing class handouts (you can find
these on the course web page).
Standards of College Behavior: Montgomery College seeks to provide an environment where discussion and
expression of all views relevant to the subject matter of the class are recognized and necessary to the
educational process. However, students do not have the right to interfere with the faculty member’s right to
teach or the other students’ rights to learn. Faculty and staff set the standards of behavior that are within the
guidelines and spirit of the Student Code of Conduct or other College policies for classrooms, events, offices, and
areas, by announcing or posting these standards early in the semester. For more information, please refer to
Number 42001 in http://cms.montgomerycollege.edu/pnp/#Chapter_4

Academic Honesty: Academic dishonesty in college is a very serious offense. Each student is expected to do
his/her own work on all quizzes and tests and class and homework exercises. Students who engage in any act
that the classroom instructor judges to be academic dishonesty or misconduct are subject to sanctions. For more
information, please refer to Number 42001 in http://cms.montgomerycollege.edu/pnp/#Chapter_4
Attendance Policy: Students are expected to attend all class sessions. Students accumulating six or more
absences will be withdrawn from the course. Two late-arrivals or early departures count as one absence.
Withdrawal and Refund Dates: It is the student’s responsibility to drop a course. Non-attendance of classes or
failure to pay does not constitute official withdrawal. To view specific drop deadlines, log into your MyMC
account:
Click on ‘My Class Schedule’ under Student Quick Links
Select the current term
Click on ‘View Drop Deadline Dates’ at the bottom of the page
Audit Policy: All students registered for audit are required to consult with the instructor before or during the
first class session in which they are in audit status, and students are required to participate in all course
activities unless otherwise agreed upon by the student and instructor at the time of consultation.
Disability Support Services: Any student who may need an accommodation due to a disability, please make an
appointment to see me during my office hour. In order to receive accommodations, a letter from Disability Support
Services (RV-CB122; GTN-SA175; or TP/SS-ST120) will be needed. Any student who may need assistance in the
event of an emergency evacuation must identify to the Disability Support Services Office; guidelines for emergency
evacuations are at www.montgomerycollege.edu/dss/evacprocedures.htm
