NOTE: Classes and schedule may be subject to change
Food: Teams may bring their own food for lunch. There will be snacks and a lunch available for purchase ($5
per person, which must be ordered during check-in). There will also be a map provided to local eateries, if
teams want to send someone out for food (Panda Express, Quizno’s, Jack-in-the-box, Taco Time, Little Ceasar’s
pizza, Subway, McDonalds all within 2 miles).
Class descriptions:
CAD:
How to find parts online, Assemblies (insert parts and mates), Drawings (insert views,
dimensions, BOM’s and notes), Parts (basic shapes, dimensioning, extrude and cut)
Both CAD classes will be at a basic level, an intro to these programs and what they can
do, students would need to continue to practice skills to become proficient.
Programming:
How to drive a motor, how to incorporate sensors or switches, using the FRC shell?
All three programming classes will be at a basic level, an intro to these programs and
what they can do, students would need to continue to practice skills to become
proficient.
Safety:
Reasons for safety, safety training options, safety resources and safety award
Team promotion:
Online options: FIRSTWA media crew and news posting, websites, facebook, twitter,
youtube, etc. In school and community resources.
Mechanics 1:
Present different types of drive systems, manufacturing tips
Mechanics 2:
Present different types of manipulators. Structural Forces (science principles and math)
Electrical:
Present basic control system parts, reading wiring diagrams, hands-on wiring project.
Pneumatics:
Present basic pneumatic system parts, reading pneumatic diagrams, hands-on project.
Intro to FRC:
This is a class intended for 1st-2nd year teams. It will go over what a typical FRC
competition schedule is like. It will go over terminology. It will go over FIRST culture
(WA style). It will include some tips on strategy/scouting.
District Model:
Present the new district model and how teams may be impacted.
Team Imagery:
Will talk about team branding, some marketing tips, spirit gear and award, imagery
award. Includes pit tips.
Team Organization:
Will discuss both team and build leadership roles and methods. Present administrative
tips. Will touch on the entrepreneurship award.
Project Management: Will discuss a build management process. Will include design process.
How to talk to judges: Will talk about FRC judging process (basics-types of judges, what they look for) including some
common awards. Give tips on how to talk to judges (and public, sponsors, etc) to successfully
get your message across.
Outreach Program:
How to develop an outreach program. How to recruit Non-engineering students to the team.
Types of events teams can do. How to make community contacts. Resources.
Chairman’s award:
Award purpose, criteria and process (including filling in TIMS info). Tips on making a video,
presentation tips.
Mentoring:
The mentoring process, tips for good mentoring, discussion
