Up Next Leadership Foundation 1722 Park Lane Kearney, Missouri 64060 [DATE] NAME TITLE COMPANY ADDRESS CITY, STATE and ZIP Dear NAME: Engaging students in science, technology, engineering, and math is one of the most important factors in creating tomorrow's workforce. FIRST Robotics is a program that addresses this issue. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an international organization that was started in 1989 by Dean Kamen. Dean is an American entrepreneur and inventor best known for inventing the Segway and the insulin pump. His goals were to get students interested in and excited about science and technology, and inspire them in a challenging and competitive atmosphere. The FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is a hands-on competition where students design, build, and program robots to compete in exciting challenges against other robots. This program is so comprehensive that the students not only learn about CAD, wiring and troubleshooting, but they must also treat the robot as their product and promote it, along with their team. Marketing (through web-design, promotional materials, tshirt and pit design) and displaying gracious professionalism are all part of the overall presentation that goes into creating a winning team. Our team, Up Next, is a homeschool team beginning its 5th season. In the 2014 season, we were awarded the Regional Chairman’s Award at the Greater Kansas City Regional. This award is the highest honor given by FIRST which highlights how we are inspiring future generations and helping those around us. Because of this award, we qualified to compete in the World Championships in St. Louis last April. The minimum budget for any FIRST team is $15,000-$20,000 per season. We would like to ask for your assistance in providing this opportunity to homeschooled students. We are a recognized 501(c)(3) organization by the IRS.
