Professional Profile Throughout my experience at Texas A&M, I have discovered many of my technical strengths and weaknesses. I have always enjoyed chemistry and math due to the fact there is usually always an exact answer that can be proven. These courses were easy for me due to my ability to pick up on patterns as well as understanding how and why formulas work. The material that I mostly struggled with was memorization. Courses such as livestock nutrition and entomology tended to confuse me with the amount of information we were required to simply commit to memory. Instead of simply figuring out how a pattern or formula works, I had to spend countless hours re-reading material in order to retain it. Many of the agricultural classes I have taken so far have had extensive time requirements for completing projects and out-of-class assignments. This has instilled me with the responsibility to keep with deadlines and turn in assignments in a timely fashion. With such a busy schedule and inadequate time management, I have a rather poor study habit. Although I keep my grades up with a respectful GPA, I usually allow things outside the classroom to disrupt the learning that should be taking place while the professor is lecturing. The agricultural classes I really excelled at were the ones in which there was math or chemistry involved. Classes in which we had hands-on projects gave me the chance to not only visualize the material, but interact with it as well. I believe that this learning method instills something that “book smarts” cannot. It doesn’t matter how well a student knows the material if they cannot recreate it in a real world application. Classes that taught information that wasn’t immediately applicable in the real world has been much more difficult for me to focus on because it was hard from to find a reason. I want the material I teach to have a reason it’s being taught that’s not only understood, but appreciated by my future students. After taking multiple learning styles tests, I have found that my personality type is that of the Guardian. I have a strength for assuring that things are properly managed and running smoothly. Although I can be laid back, I am very serious about my responsibilities and making sure the job is finished in a timely manner. I aspire to being practical and reasonable. Wellestablished rules provide for a fair environment where everyone is considered equal. Maintaining discipline and loyalty will provide for the most efficient teamwork atmosphere in and out of the classroom. Many who share similar strengths generally tend to land the indispensable but thankless jobs that many people overlook. I enjoy having my life organized into a well-structured schedule and oriented to follow a routine pattern that doesn’t involve much improvising. My learning styles learned more towards kinesthetic and auditory learning. Hearing a teacher explain the material gives me a perspective through which to begin learning. Although I prefer to have written directions and objectives to reference back to when needed, I learn new material the best with hands-on experience. I plan to take my love for practicality and fundamental rules to give a group of future students a great, fair agriculture learning environment. I also hope to utilize my dependability to earn the trust and respect of not only the students, but their parents and the local community as well. I lastly plan to use my strengths of reason and trustworthiness try to make a smooth, sensible relationship with the administration which I will find myself working under.
