List the start time as (14:14) 19 Scoring the Set • P the number in the upper right corner of service round box for each correct server when they CONTACT the ball for service • If it is the wrong server- DO NOT P the number in the service round box. Only enter the Exit Score (Total Team Score) Do not notify the 2nd Referee until after the wrong server has contacted the ball • DO NOT P the service round box if the server fails to serve in the 8 seconds and a loss of rally is issued without contact of the ball • DO NOT P the service round box if a Server tosses a ball and lets it drop • DO NOT P the service round box if the last point of the set is scored on a loss of rally. Just enter the set point as the exit score for the next server • For the first rotation P boxes with the number 1. For the second rotation P boxes with the number 2 and so on. Since the Foot Fault is the end of #3’s service enter the Exit Score of 3. NO TWO EXIT SCORES for one team should be the same, they will have earned a loss of rally point Rams’ # 1 serves their first serve into the net Should the Exit Score be 19? No, the last exit score was 19 Side-out point 20 has been missed. No additional team time outs are ever awarded in USAV play • During time outs, check that the visual score is correct • Check that the number of substitutions matches the total team subs and that the Score at Change entries are complete • Time-outs in USAV are 30 seconds long 32 SANCTIONS BOX On the bottom left corner of the score sheet is the SANCTIONS box. This box is used to record common penalties. 33 Types of Penalties in the Sanctions Box • IMPROPER REQUESTS • TEAM DELAY WARNINGS • TEAM DELAY PENALTIES • INDIVIDUAL PLAYER OR TEAM STAFF PENALTIES • EXPULSION A 1 2 3 A 1 4 8 D A 1 6 10 7 B 1 12 8 / / C B 1 18 10 3 A 2 6 6 • DISQUALIFICATION Since all Sanctions are for the Match, copy the entries to all set score sheets 34 IMPROPER REQUEST • An Improper Request shall be rejected by the first or second Referee • The first Improper Request will be issued without a warning or penalty being assessed • Any further interruptions in the same match will be sanctioned progressively • An Improper request shall be recorded on the score sheet and will be in effect for the whole match 35 Types of IMPROPER REQUESTS • Any request after the whistle for service • Request not by a Captain or Head Coach • Excess Time Out (request for 3rd time out) • Excess Team Sub (request 13th team sub) • Call for 1 sub and send 2 players. (1st sub is accepted, the 2nd sub is denied and an Improper Request is given) • 2nd request for a sub on the same dead ball ( A team is granted a sub and then requests another sub) • Wrong Position entry. ( Ex: a player subs in position IV and then tries to enter in position III) (Example on next slide) 36 Recording an IMPROPER REQUEST Bearcats ask for a Time-Out after the 1st Referee beckons for serve. They are issued an Improper Request. Bearcats are Team A. It is set 1 and the score is Bearcats 6 and Rams 12. A 1 6 12 •Slash the IR. •Write A in A/B Team column •Write 1 in the set Column •Write the score of 6-12 Always list the score of the team committing the Sanction first. 37 TEAM DELAY WARNINGS • A TEAM DELAY is any action that delays the resumption of the set • A Team Delay Warning shall be recorded under the W (Warning) column in the Sanctions Section • A Team Delay will be in effect for the entire match 38 Types of TEAM DELAY WARNINGS • Second Improper Request in the match. Team delay warnings will be in effect for the whole match, not just the set • Wearing jewelry during warm up or the set • Late line-up submission Two minutes before the first set and 30 seconds before the start of subsequent sets in the match • Failure to report to the court to start the set • Prolonged set interruptions- delays after a time-out • Unnecessary player delays- throwing ball into the stands, etc. 39 Types of TEAM DELAY WARNINGS • Delays making a Substitution (Call for a sub and they are late getting to the line because they need to remove sweats etc..) • Requesting an illegal substitution (A player not on roster, an expelled/disqualified player, a player replaced by an exceptional sub in that match) • Wrong Libero re-entry (A Libero entry after the serve, the Libero did not sit out one rally, the Libero was replaced by the wrong player) (Example on next slide) 40 Recording a TEAM DELAY WARNING Rams are late returning from a time-out and are issued a Team Delay Warning. (The1st ref holds a hand to the wrist to indicate a Team Delay Warning.) Rams are Team B. This is set 1 and the score is Rams 12 -10. B 1 12 10 •Slash the D •Write B in A/B Team column •Write 1 in the set Column •Write the score of 12-10 Always list the score of the team committing the Sanction first. 41 TEAM DELAY PENALTIES • A TEAM DELAY PENALTY is issued for any second Team Delay or an Improper Request that happens after the first Team Delay • A Team Delay Penalty results in a loss of rally or penalty point • Once a Team Delay penalty is issued, it will be in effect for the whole match 42 TEAM DELAY PENALTY Issued to Rams • Rams are issued a Team Delay for having a player on the court with jewelry • Since it is the second violation, the1st referee holds a YELLOW CARD to the wrist to indicate a Team Delay Penalty • A YELLOW CARD indicates a Penalty Point or loss of rally • After entering information in the Sanction Box, you will have to slash and circle a Penalty Point in the running score column (Example on next slide) 43 Recording a TEAM DELAY PENALTY Bearcats I Rams / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / Rams are Team B. It is set 1 and the score is Rams 13, Bearcats 16 D B 1 13 16 •Write the D in the Penalty column •Write B in A/B Team column •Write 1 in the set Column •Write the score of 13-16 •Slash & Circle Penalty Pt 17 for the Bearcats A Yellow Card is always a penalty point in USAV 44 Individual Player or Team Staff PENALTIES • If a player or team staff is VERBALLY WARNED nothing is written on the score sheet • If a player or Team Staff is given a YELLOW CARD it will be recorded in the Sanction Box and results in a loss of rally/ penalty point (The 1st Referee will hold yellow card in air and identify the player or staff member) • Once a player or team staff is issued a penalty sanction, the sanction will be in effect for the whole match (Example on next slide) 45 Recording an INDIVIDUAL PENALTY Bearcats I Rams / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / Bearcats # 4 gets a Yellow Card. They are Team A. They are Team B, it is set 1 and the score is Rams 18 - Bearcats 10. C B 1 18 10 •Write a C in the Explsn column (C = Coach) •Write B in A/B Team column •Write 1 in the set Column •Write the score of 18-10 The sanctioned person must go to the penalty area or remain seated on the bench for the remainder of the SET. There is no further action necessary – no Remarks or Points 47 Recording a Disqualification The R1 shows a Red and Yellow Card and points to player #3 with the Bearcats. They are Team A, it is set 2 and the score is Bearcats 6 - Rams 6. 3 A 2 6 6 •Write a 3 in the Disqual column •Write A in A/B Team column •Write 2 in the set Column •Write the score of 6-6 The sanctioned person must leave the playing area, bench, warm up area and spectator area for the remainder of the MATCH. There is no further action necessary – no Remarks or Points 48 WRONG SERVER • If the Wrong player serves the ball, DO NOT tell the 2nd Referee until AFTER the ball has been contacted for serve • If this is the first serve of the term Do Not place a P in the Service round box • Enter the Exit Score • No entry is recorded on the scoresheet for Wrong Server • Make sure you give the other team a loss of rally point (Example on next slide) 49 Recording a WRONG SERVER 14 14 2 4 1P 2 BEARCATS 6c Bearcats #2 served instead of #4. 8 10 A X 12 X B RAMS 1 3c X 3P 5 7 9 11 Slash Side-out Pt 4 for the Rams. If a protest is upheld, the match will be replayed from the point of protest. No penalty will be assessed • This Exceptional Sub will not be counted as a team substitution • The injured player may not return for the rest of the MATCH 54 Order of Replacement for an Injured Player • • Use a legal sub first A player who has not entered the set, or By the starter or a sub who has played in that position of the rotation If No legal Subs are available use this order for an Exceptional Sub 1. By any substitute on the bench regardless of what position previously played 2.
