Welcome to 2015 Calvin Rodwell! It is hard to
believe that we have been together for half a year. I
am excited and encouraged by the growth that we
have made so far, and optimistic about the work we
still need to accomplish. During the month of
January so far, students have been engaged in their
middle of the year testing in both math and literacy.
These tests are used to gage student’s progress
from the beginning of the year. Please begin to
have conversations with your children about their
data and setting goals. As a school, we want to
focus on student growth. It is always not about
where you begin, but where you end up. All
teachers have data walls in their classroom and I
encourage you to meet with them to discuss your
child’s data. During the meeting with the teacher,
develop strategies that you can do at home to help
your child reach his or her goals. In order for your
child to reach their full potential, it is imperative
that learning does not only happen in school.
Children should read a minimum of thirty minutes
per day. Reading 30 minutes a day will not only
develop student’s analytical thinking skills, but will
Dear Parents
We encourage all students to strive for perfect
attendance at CRES. Our new Perfect
Attendance Policy includes being on time for
school as well. Every day is an opportunity to
learn something new and exciting.
We can’t spell success without you here each
and every day. Our school day begins at 7:45
AM daily and dismisses at 2:25 PM, except for
scheduled early release days. All students are
expected to arrive at 7:45 time.
“Be a Star Student, Come to School Every Day”

Party….
We are trying to decrease the
numbers of students who are
chronically late… Help us to
reach our GOAL by coming
to school prepared and on
time each and every day!

also improve their concentration and writing
skills. As a child, reading was not my favorite
thing to do unless it was something that sparked
my interest. The library gives students the
opportunity to find books that are interesting to
them.
Math was my favorite subject as a kid and I
always liked finding the solutions to problems.
Please work on basic facts at home. We also
have the First in Math program
www.firstinmath.com that all students in grades
kindergarten through fifth have access to. Frank
Maxwell, a fifth grade student, won a XBOX
360 game for earning nearly 2,000 stickers over
winter break.
If we continue to work together, I am positive
that your child will have the foundation to be a
global leader and learner.
Mr. Rather, Principal
We want to give a very special
shout out to our School Partners
for giving so generously during
the holiday season. Families and
students were supported so
bountifully with food, gifts,
clothing, hats, gloves, cultural
enrichment, etc. Every act of
kindness makes a difference. We
appreciate your thoughtfulness…
