Word-for-Word Example Martin Comm. Studies p. 1 2 February 2015 Self-Introduction Speech To most people the saying “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” is a compliment. But as a teenager growing up in Iowa I couldn’t wait to fall far, far away from the tree and roll all the way to Wheaton, Illinois. Today, I’m going to share a little bit about myself by telling you about my childhood in Dubuque, how I spend my free time, and what I did over summer vacation. Before I moved to Illinois I lived in Iowa. I grew up in city called Dubuque which is on the Mississippi river right where Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin all meet. Since I grew up in Iowa people think I grew up on a farm, but that’s not true. I went to a high school much like Wheaton North and participated in lots of school activities. Since Dubuque is a river city, I spent lots of time in the water. I loved boating, water skiing, swimming, and even was a lifeguard for many years. Although I appreciated growing up in a tight knit community, I always knew I wanted to move away from Iowa and write my own story. I still like to swim, but I don’t get around to it as much as I would like. Instead, my free time is spent doing recreational activities like running, reading, and cooking. I love working out, but running is my favorite activity because I get to be outside. Over the summer I ran my second half marathon and beat my personal record! I also like to read to relax – especially novels likes Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, and Divergent. My family has a lot of the same interests that I do, they love to be active and be outside. In fact, over the summer I went to an Extreme Sports Resort with my family for a week. We stayed at an isolated cabin in West Virginia where we did rock climbing, zip lining, ATVing, and paintballing. The most exciting days of our vacation was our 3 days of camping and White Water Rafting. We went on the most extreme rapids possible, Class 5, which included a 14 foot waterfall and undercut rocks. Even with all this excitement, my favorite part of our vacation was spending quality time with my family. I hope you enjoyed getting to know me on a personal level by learning about my childhood, my hobbies, and my family trip. As you have witnessed, there is much more to me than being just a teacher. So next time you meet someone new let them introduce themselves and really get to know their core. Speech Outline Example Martin Comm. Studies p. 1 2 February 2015 I.
