Thank you for your interest in applying to be a member of the UCLA Student Health
Advocates (SHA) Program for the upcoming year. The SHA program has been a part of the University of California, Los Angeles experience since 1974 and is one of many organizations on campus that contributes to the increased quality and comfort of campus life. The SHA program encourages students to develop a healthy lifestyle and educates students on well-being. The SHA program is under the umbrella organization of the Student Welfare Commission (SWC) and works in conjunction with the
Arthur Ashe Student Health & Wellness Center, putting on health programs in the residence halls on topics concerning stress, communication, relationships, alcohol safety, and body image.
Involvement in the SHA program is a manageable time commitment. The position officially starts during zero week of the 2011 Fall Quarter, and continues throughout the 2012 Spring Quarter.
All new SHAs are required to take a Community Health Science course (4 units) during the 2013
Spring Quarter that emphasizes health theory and programming and will be able to enroll via a PTE number. The course usually takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3PM-5PM during the Spring quarter. In addition, SHAs are required to attend weekly team meetings on Thursdays from 5pm-6pm and SHA team social events, as well as plan, volunteer at and attend SWC and Ashe Center events.

SHA Program Interviews: Weeks 5 & 6
Candidates are selected upon their leadership qualities and ability to work well with others.
Furthermore, SHAs are chosen based on their observed commitment and enthusiasm to keep the SHA program vibrant for the upcoming years.
You will be contacted at the end of Week 4 to arrange a 10-minute interview during Weeks 5 & 6.
