The analysis aims at answering two research questions: 1.Is it recommended to teach such complex subjects to our students? 2.What would the students and I benefit from this unit? What are some methods for motivating students? Through analysis of these questions, the Six Beliefs of Motivation, the difference between extrinsic and intrinsic motivation, and various methods of motivation, I have discovered the secret to motivating the uninterested student. In my presentation I will show how I reach out to a group of emergent readers in Junior High School using techniques and insights gained from my studies, and how I encourage students towards self‐directed and independent learning. I will speak about benefits of teaching small groups. Teaching with the Song “I’m a Little Teapot” for a 5th grade Using this song by actually setting up a “tea party” to teach vocabulary (nouns), learning the song with the video clip that includes the words and then acting out the song with the class, makes teaching the words fun and interactive and creates a positive classroom environment. 616 610 611 615 16:10-16:30 Parallel Sessions 2 Presenter Presentation Talya Sha’anan Sha’anan College Using Puppets in the English Classroom In this presentation I will show how puppets and Ortal Frank & Maayan Shemtov - Using the Multisensory Differential Teaching Technique in a Swiss 5th grade We participated in an exchange students program in Switzerland. The lesson's content was different cultural meals in Israel, England and Switzerland. We created four activities that involved at least one of the sensory modalities (visual, auditory, tactile and kinesthetic). The activities were set in four corners: post office, restaurant, restaurant's kitchen and a bingo game. 615 Amneh Khatib Oranim College Defiance or perpetuation of stereotypes? Analysis of the animated movie AntZ 616 Amir Siso Gordon College Technology in the Classroom – WEB 2.0 tool– Glogster EDU Gordon College Room puppet shows can be used as a tool in the English classroom for pupils to express emotions and develop their language skills. This presentation discusses the socio-linguistic agenda of the animation film AntZ through analyzing the speech of two main characters -Z and Princess Balla- in terms of two linguistic practices: hedges and talkativeness. The analysis aims at answering two research questions: 1-What role does the animated movie AntZ have in gendering children? 2-Does the film defy or perpetuate gender stereotypes in its discourse? I will be presenting a web 2.0 tool called Glogster. The presentation will include: a HOTS activity, how this tool can be used to support this activity and a quick overview of the tool itself. 611 610 16:30 – 16:55 Break and More Browsing 16:55 - 17:45 Plenary II - Professor Penny Ur OBE - 'The Road I've Taken: A Traveler's Tale' Looking back on 45 years of teaching, teacher education and writing, it has become clear that some significant professional learning results from particular incidents: things that happen on the way that have opened my eyes to new insights or understandings. These may be encounters with other professionals, feedback from students, reading, or just ‘aha’ moments that take place in the classroom.
