Teaching 7th Grade Students about Ancient Egypt
This presentation discusses teaching the 7th grade students about Ancient Egypt through English
lessons; an interesting process of expanding the students’ world knowledge through English by
presenting it in a fun and enjoyable way. The analysis aims at answering two research questions:
1.Is it recommended to teach such complex subjects to our students?
2.What would the students and I benefit from this unit?

What is motivation? Why are students unmotivated to learn? What are some methods for
motivating students? Through analysis of these questions, the Six Beliefs of Motivation, the
difference between extrinsic and intrinsic motivation, and various methods of motivation, I have
discovered the secret to motivating the uninterested student.
In my presentation I will show how I reach out to a group of emergent readers in Junior
High School using techniques and insights gained from my studies, and how I
encourage students towards self‐directed and independent learning. I will speak about
benefits of teaching small groups.
Teaching with the Song “I’m a Little Teapot” for a 5th grade
Using this song by actually setting up a “tea party” to teach vocabulary (nouns), learning
the song with the video clip that includes the words and then acting out the song with the
class, makes teaching the words fun and interactive and creates a positive classroom
environment.

Using the Multisensory Differential Teaching Technique in a Swiss 5th grade
We participated in an exchange students program in Switzerland. The lesson's content was
different cultural meals in Israel, England and Switzerland. We created four activities that
involved at least one of the sensory modalities (visual, auditory, tactile and kinesthetic). The
activities were set in four corners: post office, restaurant, restaurant's kitchen and a bingo
game.

puppet shows can be used as a tool in the English classroom for pupils to express emotions
and develop their language skills.
This presentation discusses the socio-linguistic agenda of the animation film AntZ through
analyzing the speech of two main characters -Z and Princess Balla- in terms of two linguistic
practices: hedges and talkativeness.
The analysis aims at answering two research questions:
1-What role does the animated movie AntZ have in gendering children?
2-Does the film defy or perpetuate gender stereotypes in its discourse?
I will be presenting a web 2.0 tool called Glogster. The presentation will include: a HOTS activity,
how this tool can be used to support this activity and a quick overview of the tool itself.

16:55 - 17:45 Plenary II - Professor Penny Ur OBE - 'The Road I've Taken: A Traveler's Tale'
Looking back on 45 years of teaching, teacher education and writing, it has become clear that some significant professional
learning results from particular incidents: things that happen on the way that have opened my eyes to new insights or
understandings. These may be encounters with other professionals, feedback from students, reading, or just ‘aha’ moments
that take place in the classroom. In this session I shall share some of these incidents and the learning that resulted during my
journey along the 'Road I've Taken'.
