Investigation #7: Cell Division – Mitosis and Meiosis
How do eukaryotic cells divide to produce genetically identical cells or to produce gametes with half the
normal DNA?
Learning Objectives:
 Describe the events in the cell cycle and how these events are controlled
 Explain how DNA is transmitted to the next generation via mitosis
 Explain how DNA is transmitted to the next generation via meiosis followed by fertilization
 Understand how meiosis and crossing over leads to increased genetic diversity, which is necessary for
evolution
Changes/additions to the AP lab: We will use alternate activities to meet the standards of the AP
Investigation (think back to the Diffusion/Osmosis Lab.) Follow the timeline and rubric closely.
