Fulfilling High-end Revenue Metering Requirements 59 Benefits of Auto-Calibration • Accuracy over Temperature. Meters drift over temperature. Moreover, hysteresis in drift may compromise accuracy permanently and require the meter to be returned for re-calibration. GE’s autocalibration insures that normal drift caused by ambient temperature movement does not affect accuracy. • Accuracy over Time. Since the majority of components within the meter are being re-calibrated on a regular interval, the meter will hold accuracy longer than non-calibrating meters. • Better Out of Box Test Results. Components from new meters sometimes need up to 1000 hours to stabilize. Using auto-calibration, the components will be recalibrated over the life of the meter. • Less Maintenance / Lower Ownership Cost. Since the meter autocalibrates, less meters will be removed from the field for calibration. 60 Commercial/Industrial Revenue Metering Functions •Monitor, control and alarm on peak demand for conducting load shedding schemes and demand charge reduction schemes •Track power usage system wide with high accuracy to reconcile with utility meter results •Monitor PF distribution and enable PF correction to balance loads and reduce VARs on the system •Monitor and participate in demand response, utilizing excess backup generation •Meter energy efficiency initiatives for actual energy savings Rich Insight into Energy and Power Quality System Metrics 61 EPM 9900 - Extensive Load Profiling and Recording Features include: •1 GB of Memory •User Configured file structure with 17 separate logs •Up to 8 separate historical logs •Each log can store 128 parameters •Each log can store data for years before filling •A significant improvement over existing technology •Data stored in an industrial-grade solid state flash drive designed for high performance and temperature stability Best in class storage/logging capabilities 62 EPM 9900 - Extensive Load Profiling and Recording Examples of Storage Capability 3 voltage readings + time stamp = 24 bytes storage interval = 15 minutes log memory = 60 meg storage in years = 70 years 24 readings + time stamp = 106 bytes storage interval = 15 minutes log memory =60 meg storage in years = 16 years 24 readings + time stamp = 106 bytes storage = 1 second log memory = 60 meg storage in days = 6.6 days Large memory capacity for years of reliable data recording and analysis 63 EPM 9900 - Blazing Fast Download Speed and Ethernet Performance Rapid Response™ Ethernet: Download data almost 80 times faster than existing EPM 9000 Meter technology Download speeds over Ethernet for EPM 9000 Series Meters: 500 400 350 400 300 300 250 9450 Meter 9650 Meter 9900 Meter 200 150 100 50 0 200 100 9450 Meter 9650 Meter 9900 Meter 0 kbytes per Second Download Speed Number of Seconds to Download 2 Meg of Storage over Ethernet *Speeds on all meter downloads dependent on quality and speed of existing network. 64 EPM 9900 – Precise Time Synchronization • IRIG-B: The EPM 9900 meter’s time can be synchronized to the signal from a GPS IRIG-B satellite. IRIG-B has a pulse rate of 100 pulses-per-second with an index count of 10 msecs over its one second time frame. IRIG-B sync has a time accuracy of better than 100 microseconds. • Network Time Protocol server: You can set up the meter’s Ethernet port to synchronize time using a Network Time Protocol (NTP) server. Typical accuracy is achieved to at least 1 msec, depending on network configuration. • Line Frequency clock synchronization: The EPM 9900 meter’s time can be synchronized to the AC frequency. • Internal clock crystal: The EPM 9900 meter’s internal clock crystal is accurate to 20ppm. It can be used if IRIG-B is not connected and/or other synchronization methods are not being used. • DNP time synchronization: Using Communicator EXTTM software, you can set the meter to request time synchronization from the DNP Master. Requests can be made from once per minute to once per day. 65 EPM 9900 - Power Quality and System Reliability Recording • Measure power quality indices such as voltage anomalies, harmonics, flicker, imbalances and many other conditions • Record waveform event on sags and swells, including peak and duration of the event, with microsecond resolution • Analyze damaging high speed positive and negative transients in the MHz range, which can damage equipment • Report on events using industry certified IEC 61000-4-30 Class A standards and EN50160 reports 66 EPM 9900 - System Reliability Improvements • Monitor voltage reliability system wide to insure proper voltage distribution • Analyze critical feeds to determine if power distribution is optimized, i.e.; Is PF too high? Is voltage reliable? Are there too many drops on the line? • Conduct forensic analysis on feeds and equipment to provide proactive awareness of problems before they occur • Audit power system for weakness or troubleshoot within the power system • Alert engineers by email or on a display when a critical alarm occurs! 67 EPM 9900 - Power Quality and System Reliability Recording 8 Channel Waveform Recorder • • • • • • Standard Recording at 1024 Samples per cycle 16 Bit Analog to Digital Converter Resolution Extensive Memory to record for years High-speed input event recording Outage detection Extensive limit setting capabilities with multiple limits per selected quantity Waveform Memory Example – 128 samples per cycle Sampling Rate = 128 samples per cycle Channels = 8 Memory = 500 meg Number of cycles = 245,000 cycle of recording Number of minutes continuous = 68 minutes Waveform Memory Example – 16 samples per cycle • • • • • Sampling Rate = 16 Channels = 8 Memory = 500 meg Number of cycles = 1,960,000 Number of minutes continuous = 544 minutes Advanced Power Quality Metering Features 68 EPM 9900 Meter Records Voltage Transients at 10Mhz Resolution 4 Channel Transient Recorder • • • • View both positive and negative transients occurring on the voltage lines The unit provides both magnitude and duration of the transient EPM 9900 uniquely replaces the lower speed sample with the transient sample on the waveform to optimize storage and reduce file size. Timing is as accurate as 20 nanoseconds. High-speed sampling provides analysis invisible to lower sampling speed meters 69 EPM 9900 - Blind Spots in Non-Transient Recording Meters Low-Speed Recorder Event High-Speed Recorder Event EPM 9900 Meter Picks up Event Event Completely Missed Up to 1024 Samples per Cycle • Both meters store at 1024 samples per cycle. • The EPM 9900 meter provides the event of the transient. • The transient is defined as an anomaly that occurred within 2 samples of the lower sampling speed of a waveform capture. 166,000 Samples per Cycle Sampled; stored at same 1024 samples/cycle • The minimum duration is dependent on the sampling speed. The EPM 9900 meter’s sampling speed is as fast as 20 nanoseconds.
