INTRODUCTION

SBL SCHEME

CLAIMABLE FROM PSMB

The safety of workforce is the ultimate objective in the manufacturing environment and in this respect a number of Acts and Regulations are in place to ensure employers and employees adhered to them.

There are responsibilities of both employers and employees to ensure the objective of workplace safety is achieved.

Lock Out and Tag Out (LOTO) is a safety procedure stipulated by Management and to be observed by ALL the workforce at all times. The Safety and Health Committee of the company should play a major role to ensure LOTO procedures are followed strictly. This would then reduce bodily injuries and eliminate fatalities. A TAG is a visual instruction placed on the machinery concern (more specifically on the energy sources) to alert the workers of the danger and to observe laid out procedures.

LOTO procedure should be extended to cover Processes especially in Chemical plants. Whilst processes are now monitored from the Control Room, if physical LOTO if not carried merely only the control display panel it could lead to Chemical Spillage due to faulty control system. In this respect, the LOTO procedure should incorporate Chemical spillage procedures and be prepared for the eventuality. Similarly any protection systems installed must also observe LOTO procedure to ensure protection systems are not deactivated for prolong period which again will ensure the workforce.
