Introduction This course covers the process to identify, select and properly safeguard machinery to protect employees and others in the work area and deliver appropriate training in safe work practices. Course topics include types of machinery requiring guarding, point of operation, emergency eyewash/shower requirements, hazard communication, Factories & Machinery Act & Regulations related to Machinery and Machine Guarding Standards violations, and corrective actions. Upon course completion students will have the ability to explain hazardous actions and motions of various types of machinery, identify methods of safeguarding, and match identified safeguards with the applicable Machinery and Machine Guarding Standards to reduce and eliminate the potential for accidents and injuries including following guidelines in ergonomics principles of machine safeguarding. Fortunately, machine hazards can be avoided through the compliance of safety rules and regulations including the use of lockout/tagout procedures. Lockout/tagout procedures isolate energy and control machinery, helping to protect employees servicing the machinery. 2. Ir. Harapajan is a professional, competent electrical engineer and registered electrical energy manager with over 30 years of lecturing experience in the electrical engineering field. He specializes in safe and efficient electrical operation and maintenance and has wide range of knowledge and experience in government and industry. He has conducted several courses on electrical safety and lockout/tagout in the Universities and several manufacturing industries including FMM, Terengganu Safety Training Centre, Mattel, Tesco, Carsem, Exxon and PETRONAS.
