Purpose:
What is the reason for conducting this research technique?
For audience research my main research technique was to create an audience profile. The reason
for conducting this type of research was because from my questionnaire results I found that my target
audience was aimed towards teenagers aged around 17 and mainly female. Therefore I created an
audience profile based on a made up female girl called Charlotte. Creating an audience profile meant
I was able to use my results and make a profile of somebody that matches those results, this
included her age, the types of things she is interested in, her job, the area she lives in etc. This has
helped me to understand and focus on my target audience for my magazine; previously creating a
questionnaire really helped me to create the audience profile.
Method: i.e A questionnaire distributed to 55 potential members of my target audience
This research consisted of me creating an audience profile based on the results I received from my
questionnaire about who my target audience will be. I produced this type of research by making it on
photo shop and then including images from the internet to back up the information I was writing
about. The information was my own knowledge.
Explanation:
Why have you chosen this method?
I have chosen to create an audience profile for this type of research because I feel as though it will
help me in getting as much information about my target audience profile as possible examples would
be on things such as what job a 17 year old would have and how much roughly would they get paid,
also the types of things they are interested in. For this research I included both primary and
secondary research, this consisted of getting images from Google to back up my information an
example would be that my person enjoys shopping in New Look and Topshop therefore I included
the logos of these shops from the internet and included it in my work. I used primary research
because the information I included throughout my audience profile was my own knowledge and
ideas.
I would say that this type of data is qualitative as I haven’t
included graphs for my information, I have only used images to
help back up my information and facts and figures from my
questionnaire
If I were to compare this to other potential methods I would
compare this to a focus group. This is because I could have
gathered people into a group and based my audience profile on
a real person from the group. By doing this it would have meant
that the information about the person is accurate and factual.
I wouldn’t say that I was faced with any limitations for this
research because it was quite simple to complete, this is due to
having a questionnaire where I found out my target audience and
created an audience profile from there. Therefore I didn’t
struggle with anything in particular.
From this information I hope to use it for my own project, by this I mean now that I know whom my
target audience is I can focus on basing my whole magazine on teenagers mainly female. This will
help me with my project because I know the types of things my readers are interested in and the
types of make up they want to see appear throughout my magazine. I will be able to look back at this
audience profile to help me when creating my magazine.

Conclusions and Evaluation:
Comprehensively explain using specific examples what information you have found out through this
piece of research
The information I found out from this piece of research was that my target audience is based on 17year-old females, however I still want to include young adults, as I want various people to read it
rather than just one age group. I found that females of this age are interested in going shopping with
friends for the latest trends and shopping in shops such as New Look, Topshop, River Island.
This image shows how I included secondary images to show the logos of the shops that my target
audiences are interested in shopping in. I also chose to have a more
interesting background for my audience profile therefore I placed a
floral background.
I chose to include an image from the
internet of a girl that looks like she is
aged about 17-18, I wanted to
include this on the audience profile
because it makes it look more
professional and I can base my
information on this image. I used a
girl of this age because my target
audience is aimed towards
teenagers of this age group.
Therefore it made sense to base my audience profile on the age group
of my target audience.
My findings show that I throughout my magazine I can include fashion
from shops such as New Look, H&M, and Topshop this is because I
now know that readers would definitely read and look up about this
kind of fashion. I haven’t included much about make up on my
audience profile; I have mainly included images of different shops that
fashion is sold in. I chose to base my audience profile on this because
it is something that people in my target audience would be interested
in. However I didn’t want to include too much information on my
audience profile because it would have been over the top. The ideas I
now have are that I can focus on the various bits of information I have noted down, and it can then be
considered into my own project.
I wouldn’t say there was any problems when creating this type of research because I gradually had
ideas as I went a long, I wanted to use both primary and secondary research so that it was varied,
getting images from the internet meant profile could be visual rather than just words on a page.
I have fully fulfilled my purpose because I have created an audience profile to help me with my
project
The next stage in my research is moving on to production research, I aim to create two annotations
of front covers and use my ideas from the annotations to include in my magazine.
