December 2014 Agenda – World Climate Summit 2014, Lima 1. Introduction This one-day event on December 10, 2014 in Lima, Peru, during UNFCCC COP20, will bring together 300+ high-level participants from both the public and private sector. As a stop on the ‘Road to Paris 2015’, (more information available below) the agenda of the World Climate Summit 2014 (WCS2014) integrates the outcomes of previous Road to Paris events, such as the World Climate Summit 2013 in Warsaw, World Green Economy Summit 2014 in Dubai, and the World Summit of Regions on Climate 2014 in Paris. The outcomes of WCS2014 will be integral to the global Road to Paris campaign, which strives to develop the strongest multistakeholder platform supporting a universal climate agreement at COP 21 in Paris 2015. This executive summary will begin with the overall purpose of WCS2014, and the proposed agenda for the event. Brief session descriptions will follow, concluding with an overview of the Road to Paris, Paris Declaration, and Global Green PPP Platform. 2. Overall Purpose The World Climate Summit (WCS) is the premier business event at the COP and this year’s summit is the 5th edition. The objectives of the World Climate Summit this year are to: Work with leaders from government, business and international organizations to define solutions and policies towards the mitigation of climate change Provide the premier business, finance and government forum alongside the UNFCCC negotiations Be a key event on the ‘Road to Paris’ 2015 and set an agenda of actions and further commitments at COP20 and for COP21 in Paris Drive new policies, projects and investments across the public and private sector, especially for Latin America. 1 World Climate Summit 2014 Programme Participants of the World Climate Summit 2014 will be invited to join the Road to Paris campaign, and pledge their support for a new international climate agreement by signing the Paris Declaration (more information available below). 3. Participants: Peruvian Projects/Initiatives (up to four) LAC Projects/Over 6. The Paris Declaration The Paris Declaration is a cross-sector initiative founded by R20 and World Climate Ltd. It is a declaration from states, regions, cities, businesses and financiers to support an international climate deal during the UN COP21 in 2015. At the World Summit of Regions for Climate (WSRC) in Paris 2014, Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Founder of R20, invited a coalition of states, regions, cities, investors and businesses to sign the Declaration, which will travel to events such as the World Climate Summit 2014 in Lima, World Green Economy Summit 2015 in Dubai, World Climate Summit 2015 in Paris, among others. At COP 21 in Paris 2015, Arnold Schwarzenegger will hand over The Paris Declaration to the UNFCCC and COP Presidency. The Paris Declaration will be handed over as a tangible representation of the largest, most influential, multistakeholder platform supporting an international climate deal at COP21. The Paris Declaration has been developed through engaging key partners and stakeholders, who also make up the core signatories of this document. Through the momentum gained through their endorsement, the Paris Declaration will continue to collect signatures during the numerous international events along the Road to Paris. 7. The Road to Paris 2015 The Road to Paris 2015 is a bottom-up, multi-stakeholder platform, from business, finance, states, regions and cities that will support the signing of a binding global climate change agreement at COP21 in Paris. The initiative is in partnership with, amongst others, R20 - Regions of Climate Action, and has been launched at the World Climate Summit 2013 during COP19 in Warsaw. 8 World Climate Summit 2014 Programme The key objective of the Road to Paris is to convene a group of globally progressive and influential organisations, leaders, and other stakeholders, that will: Promote the green economy based on public and private collaborations Showcase solutions for climate change to the UNFCCC and key national and sub-national governments Build innovative partnerships across sectors Create positive sustainability narratives for governments, business and financiers Facilitate the signing of the Paris Declaration By the time the Road to Paris campaign culminates at COP21 in December 2015 we aim to have assembled the largest multi-stakeholder platform for climate action to date. This will be represented through the handing over of the Paris Declaration and the announcement of several other global initiatives supporting the commitments to be made at COP21. The Road to Paris campaign will promote globally the initiatives and messages of our partners, including the Paris Declaration. 8. Global Green Public-Private Partnership Platform World Climate Ltd is developing the Global Green Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Platform, which will be a mechanism for cities, utilities, integrators, solutions providers and financiers, looking to engage in large-scale green PPPs. The main objective of the PPP Platform is to facilitate large-scale green PPPs in areas such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable buildings, and infrastructure. This will do done primarily through: 1. Establishing the PPP Platform as a global forum for green PPP projects 2. Creating an international network of relevant stakeholders, including solution providers, utilities, integrators and financiers. 3. Showcasing innovative green economy solutions 4.
