Sci 8 Short Presentation Instructions Name: ______________________ (Partner: ____________________) Science 8 Short Presentation on Any Topic Related to Science That Wasn’t Covered in Science 8 Purpose: 1. To encourage students to develop an interest in and further their knowledge of a topic of science not covered in Science 8. 2. To give students the opportunity to demonstrate the ability to prepare and deliver an interesting presentation to their peers. 3. To give students the opportunity to practice research skills, including identifying and using reliable on-line resources and making a reference list in MLA style. Timeline: *Tuesday, January 12 & Thursday, January 14 --> class time in the computer lab to research and prepare presentation *Tuesday, January 19 @ midnight --> deadline to email presentation to Ms. Dhir (Lisa.Dhir@sd41.bc.ca) so that all presentations are ready on her desktop computer for Wednesday. *Wednesday, January 20 --> in-class presentations. ALL STUDENTS MUST BE PREPARED TO PRESENT ON THIS DAY (*Friday, January 22 --> in-class presentations for any students who did not present on Wednesday due to time constraints or excused absences with a note) What to do: 1. Decide on a topic you would like to present to your peers. Confirm that your topic is acceptable with Ms. Dhir before beginning research. 2. Start researching your topic. Make sure you save the names/addresses of all websites that you use even if just for a picture. You must reference everything! 3. Make your Powerpoint presentation: a. One title slide including your topic, your and your partner’s names, date of presentation (Wednesday, January 20, 2016) b. Five content slides, each with a title. Do not just type what you are going to say, these slides should be interesting for the audience and add to what you are saying. The recommended format is 1-3 pictures and up to six words total in a large enough font that everyone can read it. c. References on one or two slides, in MLA format, in a font large enough for the audience to read. 4. You are expected to use all of the available class time to work on your research and Powerpoint. If you need more time the Byrne Creek library is open with computers available before school from 8 am, at lunch, and after school until about 4 pm. 5. If you choose to work with a partner, make sure each of you has a copy of everything in case one person is absent. 6.
