Enhanced Web Assign Online Homework System for PHYS 201 Dear students: Welcome to Enhanced Web Assign (EWA), the online homework system for PHYS 201. We are excited to offer this online platform. It has been chosen based on its excellent interactivity with the eBook, well suited for successful comprehension of physics concepts. We hope you will find doing and submitting your homework online an exciting and productive experience. Homework assignments for PHYS 201 will be submitted weekly through the online homework system, EWA. Homework assignments become available every Tuesday morning at 9:00 AM and are due on Tuesday night at or before 11:59 pm two weeks later. The maximum score for each homework assignment is 30 points. The score will also be shown in percentages. Each homework assignment contains 3 problems for credit and possibly several additional problems for practice. Practice problems are there for your convenience in case you need additional exercises to improve your understanding of the material. Please note the following important points about EWA. 1: We have chosen EWA since it is a very advanced, user-friendly online homework system with servers that are practically always running. For any given time period we know exactly if the servers are down even for a few seconds. 2: Most problems in homework assignments have randomizers: each student will have different values assigned to variables and answer for each student will be different. 3: Homework problems come with a variety of hints and feedback for incorrect answers and should be done independently. In addition, a lot of problems have “Master it” and “Watch it” options. Recitation TAs are not supposed to help you with your online homework and do not have access to it. Grading settings for online homework assignments: - the number of attempts to answer problems is unlimited (well, it is 100, but that should be enough) - you can use all available help without any penalty How to enroll in the EWA online homework system. Special Drexel textbook package from Serway & Jewett contains an access code that will let you enroll in the EWA. Please check Syllabus for possible buying options. What is inside the homework and how much time can I spend on it? When you view an assignment you will see that there are three problems that are worth 10 points credit each. You can attempt solving problems in any order you wish, spend any amount of time you wish on them, have as many interruptions and breaks as you need. You only need to make sure to click on the submit button once you are done with the problem. How long will assignments be available for viewing and practicing? Once the assignment becomes available, its status will stay unchanged until the end of the quarter. Once past the due date, you cannot get any credit for solving problems but you can attempt and redo them as many times as you wish for practice. Why are we having to deal with online homework instead of submitting it on paper? Although online homework approach may be frustrating in the beginning until you get used to it, we are confident that it provides an excellent interactive learning environment that will improve your critical thinking skills and your performance on the exam and in the course overall. Best of luck with EWA!
