Course Description:

This course will examine Economics as the study of people trying to satisfy wants and needs through the use of limited resources. Economics also involves the production, consumption, and distribution of wealth in a market economy that is manipulated by governmental policies. This course is also designed to help students obtain financial literacy in the areas of banking, financial institutions, credit card management and the management of stocks and bonds.

This course incorporates Project Based Learning (PBL) by extending classroom learning to real world applications. Through investigation, analysis and presentation students will master South Carolina Content Standards and Success Skills that include creativity, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration.

The grading procedures for the semester are as follows:

Final grade calculation is as follows:

1st nine weeks grading period: 40%

2 nd

nine weeks grading period: 40%

Final Exam: 20%

Grades will be updated regularly, no later than Monday of the following week. If a student or parent has any questions, I will be happy to arrange a telephone call or meeting.

Students will be assigned several projects throughout the term. Projects are designed to improve a student’s grade in the course. Although much of the work will be completed in class, some of the work may need to be completed at home. All projects must be completed by the assigned due date. Students who are absent on the due date must hand in their project on the day they return to class. Late projects will not be accepted.

Supplies

All students will be required to bring a notebook to class. This notebook will contain a student’s class notes and vocabulary. Students will also be expected to bring their textbooks and Elite Pads to class every day.

Classroom Expectations and Consequences:

Students will be expected to adhere to all rules and regulations that are outlined in the student handbook. Consequences of breaking rules or being disruptive in my class will include the following:

Any work that is missed by the student is the student's responsibility to make up. Under most circumstances, students will have seven days to make up any missed assignments. This time period may be shortened based on report card or other grading deadlines. Any missed notes must be obtained from a fellow student. All course resources will be available to the student on my website. All test should be made up before school or after school.

Students and parents may access all class resources by visiting the Lugoff- Elgin High School website and then going to my individual site. A calendar is also available to follow for test and project schedules.

Tutoring

I will be available for tutoring 6:30-7:30. If a student needs additional help, I will be glad to arrange an additional time, however, I must be notified at least 24 hours in advance.
