3D Printing & Additive Manufacturing
researcher £17,000 - £25,000 per annum
Wirksworth, Derbyshire, UK
Do you have a passion for 3D printing, Information, knowledge and data?
Are you passionate and knowledgeable about 3D printing? Do you spend hours scouring the internet for the
latest news, views and trends in 3D printing? Does it all make sense to you and do you have your own wellgrounded views and opinions on the future 3D economy? Do you wish someone would pay you to indulge your
lust for 3D printing knowledge and let you share your talents at the very heart of the 3D Printing sector?
If so we might have just the job for you!
Econolyst is currently looking to recruit a 3D Printing & Additive Manufacturing research analyst. Your role will be
to source, research, interrogate and disseminate information on 3D printing, both internally to Econolyst staff and
externally to our clients. You will work on an ever changing portfolio of client projects for some of the biggest
brand names you can imagine. Your role will be to help the Econolyst team answer the sorts of questions we get
asked every day by our clients around the world.
So who are these clients and what are their questions?
Econolyst provides business and technology strategy to some of the world’s largest 3D Printing machine and
materials vendors. We undertake complex market research assignments using a range of methodologies, from
desk based research, through to structured interviews and web surveys. We advise institutional investors, hedge

the 3D printing economy. We also advise some very influential companies in retail, healthcare, automotive,
consumer electronics, consumer goods and aerospace, where we provided advise, guidance and project
management – helping companies embed 3D printing into their value and supply chains. All these activities
require good solid grounded data and an implicit understanding of where 3D Printing fits. That’s where you
would come in!
Wirksworth, Derbyshire, UK
On a daily basis you might be asked to map out the potential opportunities and scale for 3D Printing in the toy
industry, or how many false teeth are sold in Mongolia (unlikely – but who knows). You will certainly be asked to
track the progress of existing and emerging 3D printing machine vendors, and map the way their technologies
are being used by society & industry. If you don’t know the different between FDM, SLA, EBM, MakerBot,
PrintrBot, Ponoko, Shapeways or strange ways – this isn’t the job for you.
So who are we looking for?
On top of having a passion for 3DP, we need someone who can demonstrate the capability and capacity to
undertake highly methodical research tasks. You’ll probably have a recent degree in a design based discipline,
manufacturing, social sciences, business, journalism or economics. But then again, you might just have oodles of
experience in structured data mining or research. Most importantly, you will be organised, articulate and selfmotivated and happy working in a small business environment. You will be expected to write reports, articles &
blog posts to a very high standard, so English as a first language would be an advantage but not a necessity for
the right candidate. The role will be mainly based in our offices in Derbyshire UK, but there will be some scope for
national & international travel.
Naturally, this job also comes with access to our own 3D Printing Lab where we play and mess with sticky plastic,
software tools, laser scanners, 3D CAD and product design innovations. Lab play is mandatory!
If this sounds interesting to you, take a look at our website, understand what we do, look at your CV, rewrite it so
it fits the role (come on, we all do it!) and then email it to Phil.reeves@econolyst.co.uk with a covering message

telling us why we have to hire you as our research wizard above everyone else. Give us links to you work, your

If we like what we see – we will invite you to participate in a remote interview process. This will involve
undertaking a short ‘research challenge’, where we will give you a set period of time to research a short task.
You will be expected to research, interpret and report back to us (written and verbal), before engaging in a short
phone interview.
If we like what we read and hear, you will be invited to a more formal face-to-face interview.
