Description of your School Enterprise:
The purpose behind choosing this special activity (Creation of the best through waste
corner) is to fulfill people’s need. Our school is located in the rural area and nearby vicinity new
township is establishing whereby the scope of selling decorative article business is more. So our
school has planned to reuse the newspapers & papers innovatively and make some useful things
for the people and then sell it to the people in this area. Demand for the greetings, folders,
birthday caps is always high. Our research has shown that greetings are always in a great demand
during the festival celebrations and people are always ready to buy it at affordable price. The
other reason to start the enterprise best out of waste is more cost effective. It reduces the
production cost, because it does not involve the use of expensive materials
This is one of the best opportunities for our children to start a new venture where they can not
only check their skills but also gain knowledge regarding enterprise. This could help them in
future to earn their bread and butter.
Background
Vimaltai Tidke Convent was established in 2002 by Radhikabai Meghe Mahila Education
Society. Our school is a co-educational school from pre-primary to grade XIIi. e. aged 3 to 18.
The strenghth is 1350 students. It is located in rural area, Beltarodi, Nagpur. Our school is a
premium English medium school affiliated to the State Board of Maharashtra. The school is
headed by Mr. Prafull Chapate the Principal, and Mrs. Abha Meghe the Director. Vimaltai Tidke
Convent is a synonymous with value-based education .We aim to inculcate ideas and values that
will help students to emerge as better human beings. With aim of the integral formation of the
students who as they grow become aware of the world, its people its diverse cultural and
problems and prepare themselves to function in their chosen career, with a quality in their
relationship with their creator. It endeavours to give an all around education liberal and technical
and also physical moral and spiritual to children of all community. We were looking forward for
such a golden opportunity. This is the first time that our school is going to start business where
we can learn more and more. We have chosen the project to sell paper bags, decorative articles,
greetings, bookmarks which are one of the needs of people in our locality. This is the perfect
platform for the students where they learn practical skills required to manage their business.
Operational Plan
Pieces which we are going to be created are useful to all age range students as well as adults. Our
start-up activity will be to design the products like an envelope, paper bags bookmarks,
greetings, folders, lanterns and birthday caps. It will be announced in the assembly, so all the
students will come to know about our entrepreneurs and their business.
The prime requirement of our enterprise is waste products i. e. newspaper as well as some
decorative things which make the selling products more innovative and demanding. All the
things are available in the school itself, except few decorative accessories.
We the two teachers (Mrs. Rutuja Pode and Mrs, Prajwali Shrivastava) always with the students
to guide and supervise them. The art teacher (Mr. Arvind Hiwase) is the ‘mentor’ for this. ‘Less
investment’ is the specialty of our business.
Strategy
There will be three groups who will work together as a team to run the business
smoothly. Each group consisting of 5-7 students from the age group of 10 to 14 years .The
groups are as follows.
1) Survey and Marketing Team: - Marketing team has to work on market research to take
decisions. This team has to interact with our main target i. e. market people. These students will
do the survey of market and then do the publicity of our product.
2) Production Team: - This group will collect all the essential objects like colours, fevicol,
newspaper sheets, some colour paper sheets, and will focus on designing and making paper bags
bookmarks, greetings, folders, lanterns and birthday caps etc.
3) Sales Team: - This team will keep an eagle’s eye at selling the products. At the initial stage
customers will be our students, teacher, principal and other non teaching staff during and parents.
Above all Management Team where our head of the school, two in charges teachers, one art
teacher and three group leaders from each team mentioned above will meet once in a week to
report and discuss next strategy which will be helpful and prosperous for our enterprise.
Market Research and Target Market
Almost anyone can learn to make best out of waste as well as decorative items but good
analytical skills are the difference between simply going through the motions and really thinking
issues through and doing task well.
Our students have conducted the survey within the school and a local community where we
intend to set up our enterprise. In this survey they came to know that there is a great demand of
an envelop greetings door hangings etc. in this community. There in no any other resource of
getting decorative things, cards etc. in this area. So people those who are situated in our school
area are our target customers. Questionnaire was framed by the students and raw data was
collected and studied by the students themselves. Children are more interested in purchase of
greetings, bookmarks, and birthday caps whereas adults put forward their demands for folders,
paper bags, door hangings. So ours is the products that fulfill the need of all age groups. So we
have chosen the families in the close vicinity of our school, as well as the parents of the students.
One of the major things which have been observed by our students is that there is in no other
supplier in our locality.
Competition and Competitive Advantages
Business and Competition are two sides of the coin. In every business whether it is small or big
has to compete with its opponents and for us they are local retailers. In our enterprise our
students are playing both the roles of creators and consumers so there is no any big risk in our
business our product is “handmade” and based on best out of waste principle so it will be sterling
piece. Students will use their creative minds under the guidance of art teacher so every time there
will be new creation. It will solve the problem of “competitive edge” and our customers will
keep on purchasing for its uniqueness.
Sustainability and Business Development
To run a business for a long time is also our aim. There are many ways to develop and grow our
business so that we can earn more and more income for our school. We have assured market and
targeted customer as because the school and the school students are life- long. A envelop,
bookmarks, birthday caps and folders are always in demand to purchase the products. Our
products will just prove, “How useless becomes Useful”
We have strategies to develop the business that is we’ll be always in touch with customers so
that we’ll come to know about their new demands, and objects will be made according it. Mouth
publicity is also one of the ways to enhance the enterprise .Flex, banners and Pamphlet will be
used for publicity. Because of this our non-school customers such as local people also come to
know about it. There are many other objects, pieces which we can add to our existing business.
Just like kites, herbal colours which will be used in festivals in future.
Profit, profit, Planet
Our enterprise is profitable, environmentally friendly and socially responsible. It fulfills all the
three Ps, - People, Profit and Planet.
People
Even we are running a small eco friendly business with few students to manage and management
skills will come in handy. It has positive impact on the community. It serves the people by
satisfying their needs.
Planet
Our business aims is to be environment friendly. We are reusing waste material like old paper
and decorative articles to make the object unique therefore it will not damage the environment.
Profit
The main aim of any business to make profit and ours is the same. Business and profit are
complementary to each other. Our entrepreneur is also getting good profit along with consumers’
fulfillments. Some of the part of profit will be used for charity.
Students
The students will learn business skills , How to deal with buyers and sellers, get hands-on
practice management skill ,decision making skill, to record and maintaining of data about
marketing. They will get life long education and new experiences. Last but not the least the skills
and attributes they will really need will vary widely depending on the type of enterprise they
choose. But here they will learn some or other things which will create business tycoons of India
Sales and Marketing Plan
Once we captured the market and our product is being liked by the people we need to think some
innovative ideas. Our products price will be depend on the market price at the same time, quality
of the product and service is also important factor which we will be maintained in our enterprise.
To get the number of customers, effective marketing will be done. School online SMS service
will be one from it. For extra profit, products will be sold at wholesale price During PTMs and
PTAs products will be exhibited to sell. Flex banners and Pamphlet will be used for publicity.
We will continue to maintain and expand relationships with local people.
Financing Strategy
We require little capital to start our business. Our basic material is newspaper and some colour
paper which is available in the school itself. We have to buy some of the things such as
decoration material which are not so much costly.
