High quality work is expected and students will be given opportunities to complete work that meets the standards specified during instruction. Classroom activities will include: reading, writing, research, problem solving, skill demonstrations and projects. Students will occasionally work in teams, but will be expected to complete individual assignments in relation to the team’s work. Assessment methods will be varied according to the curriculum in the course of study. Our goal is for every student to receive relevant and rigorous instruction to prepare them for the next step in pursuing further education or a career. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course of study is designed to teach the student computer concepts as related to processing data into useful information needed in business situations by using word processing, spreadsheet, and database software. The design of this course is to prepare students for Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certification. (Unit A-Safety, 1-5, Unit BEmployability Skills, 1-2) Essential Introduction to Computers Students will learn how to maintain data files and other administrative techniques. (Unit CBasic Computer Concepts, 1-12) Weeks 2-5 Weeks 6-9 Windows and Microsoft Office 2010 Students will learn about user interfaces, Windows, Windows Explorer, and each Office 2010 application. (Unit C-Basic Computer Concepts, 13-15) Email etiquette. (Unit A-Safety, 7, Unit B-Employability Skills, 2) Microsoft Word 2010—Creating, Formatting and Editing Word Documents Part 1 Unit F—Word, 1-32, 39-42, 50 Students will learn to create and edit word documents. Students will review the correct formatting of business & personal-business letters and memos to include two-page letters. Students will learn to create a research paper using the MLA and APA style to include unbound and bound reports, endnotes & footnotes, and a reference page. Students will learn to correctly format an outline and a table of contents. Students will learn to use a wizard to create a letter with a table. Students will and save a document as a Webpage. Microsoft Excel 2010-Creating and Formatting Worksheets and Charts Part 1 Unit G-Excel, 1-40, 43 Students will create a worksheet and embedded chart. Students will add formulas and functions to a worksheet. Students will use what-if analysis to analyze data on a worksheet. Students will use templates to create and share a finished document. Students will create and use quick styles. Students will perform mail merge operations. Microsoft Excel 2010- Creating and Formatting Worksheets and Charts Part 2 Unit G, Excel, 33-35, 38, 42-51 Students will add financial functions to a worksheet. Students will create data tables to analyze worksheet data. Students will create, sort and query a table. Students will create consolidated worksheets. Students will present data visually through formatted charts and illustrations. Microsoft Access 2010-Creating and Querying a Database Unit I-Access, 1-20 Students will learn to create a database using design and datasheet views. Students will create queries and sort a database.
