CAREER & TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION PHILOSOPHY
Students will be given challenging real-world projects and assignments typical of the business or
computer technology field. High quality work is expected and students will be given
opportunities to complete work that meets the standards specified during instruction. Classroom
activities will include: reading, writing, research, problem solving, skill demonstrations and
projects. Students will occasionally work in teams, but will be expected to complete individual
assignments in relation to the team’s work. Assessment methods will be varied according to the
curriculum in the course of study. Our goal is for every student to receive relevant and rigorous
instruction to prepare them for the next step in pursuing further education or a career.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course of study is designed to teach the student computer
concepts as related to processing data into useful information needed in business situations by
using word processing, spreadsheet, and database software. The design of this course is to
prepare students for Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certification.

Essential Introduction to Computers
 Students will learn how to maintain data files and other administrative techniques. (Unit CBasic Computer Concepts, 1-12)

 Students will learn about user interfaces, Windows, Windows Explorer, and each Office

Microsoft Word 2010—Creating, Formatting and Editing Word Documents Part 1
Unit F—Word, 1-32, 39-42, 50
 Students will learn to create and edit word documents.
 Students will review the correct formatting of business & personal-business letters and
memos to include two-page letters.
 Students will learn to create a research paper using the MLA and APA style to include
unbound and bound reports, endnotes & footnotes, and a reference page.
 Students will learn to correctly format an outline and a table of contents.
 Students will learn to use a wizard to create a letter with a table. Students will and save a
document as a Webpage.
