It’s been so great to finally get back into a routine after the snow storm and the students are
showing us that they were ready to be back. As you are aware, we are having Parent Teacher
Conferences on both Thursday and Friday. If you have not scheduled a conference please contact
the front office to see if there are any times still available. In addition, second quarter report cards
will be sent home on Tuesday, Feb. 9th. Please take time to review all the information, fliers, and
documents that are sent home this week. We have included them within our email as well as
some are coming home in paper copy for your attention. We look forward to seeing you at conferences and have a
wonderful weekend!

GES PTA would like to sincerely thank everyone for their continued support and helping us make Guildford a
GREAT part of this community. As we walk through the halls, aide in classes, stuff Friday folders etc., we see our
PTA efforts come to life.
Recess donations- Thank you sooooo much to all of those who donated items to help our children have wonderful
indoor recess during this Winter Season. Recess is important as we all know it helps our children release and allows
them a break and go back to class ready. There were a few items we still needed and thanks to all the box tops coming in we are able
to get those items as well. We will post pictures on our website and facebook once we have all of them purchased, hopefully by the
end of the week.
Our Volunteer of the month drawing was held at our last PTA meeting and the Volunteer of the Month
is............ Mel Stone-Wald. We truly hope Mel enjoys her gift card. Thank you to all the volunteers.
Remember when logging in for your pass at the front office, make sure to click “Volunteer” and your name
automatically goes into our drawing.
The PTA is VERY proud to announce that we are presenting our very own GES 5K Run along side the 5th Grade
Team and additional staff at Guilford. March 19th we will kick off our very first GES 5K and we need everyone's
support. Proceeds benefit the 5th GRADE Farewell Field Trip, Yearbooks, and Farewell Ceremony. Save the date
and get your running shoes ready. Don't want to run but still want to support your school, we have a 1 Mile Fun
Walk too. Registration will be available next week on our website and more details our facebook page. Also check out our GES PTA
Bulletin Board inside the school as we decorate it and shoot for our goal of 250 participants. Let's go GES!!!!!!!
Box Tops - Show your love for your school. Now that students have returned to school, it's time to send in all those box tops you
have been clipping. Our next submission deadline is March 1, 2016. Thank you to everyone who sent box tops in during the months
of December and January. We had 1115 valid box tops submitted. That's $111.50 for our school. Congratulations to 4th grade for

attendance. Every mother and daughter will be participating in Mother/Daughter Team Building. However, please be
sure to indicate on the flyer which two workshops you and your daughter will be interested in participating in. You may
choose Yoga or Zumba and then Art or Jewelry Making. We hope that we have the same turnout based on the amount of
students who RSVPd for our original date.

Quarter 3 P.E. Homework - All students in kindergarten - 5th grade should have received their Quarter 3
P.E. homework. This quarter we are working on muscular strength and endurance, plus a little flexibility. All
students should complete this homework by Wednesday, February 10th. Extra copies are on the P.E. canvas
pages and in the gym. Thank you for your support!!!
Jump Rope for Heart Event - Guilford's Jump Rope for Heart event will be held this Thursday, February 4th. We have almost
200 students participating in this year's event. Thank you to all of our parent, alumni, and students who volunteered to make our
Jump-A-Thon a success. All pledge envelopes are due by: Friday, February 12th. Thank you for your support and generosity!!!
Maryland’s Green Author Visits Guilford Elementary School!
On February 23rd, Maryland’s Green Author, Jennifer Keats Curtis, will be visiting our students to talk
about ospreys, turtles, and other bay creatures! Mrs. Curtis has penned number stories about animals,
including this year’s Children’s Choice Book Award Winner Kali’s Story: An Orphaned Polar Bear
Rescue and the new rhyming fiction, Trudy the Tree Frog. To celebrate our reading efforts, Mrs.
Curtis has reduced the prices of her books for our students. To purchase books, please complete and
return the form that was sent home in student Friday Folders (also available on our website:
http://ges.hcpss.org/) with payment to your child’s teacher by Friday, February 19th. For information

2015-16 Yearbooks On Sale Now!
Yearbooks are now on sale. You may go to the GES website and pay online or pay with cash or check
made out to Guilford Elementary School. Please send payments in an envelope with your students
name, quantity of books, and homeroom teacher to Mrs. Johnson in the front office.

PTA has been able to budget 5th grade yearbooks, therefore all 5th grade graduates will receive a free
