Title:
Purchase of Animals for Research and Teaching
Background & Purposes:
1. General
1.1.
All acquisitions of animals to be used for teaching and/or research purposes, except livestock for the
Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, must be made through the Director of Animal Care.
1.2.
Blue requisitions (UBC Form B-4) for the purchase of animals (including open orders) must, in every
instance, be sent to the Director of Animal Care. Orders will be processed only if the requisition includes
the reference number of the “UBC Animal Care Certificate” based on the approved protocol for the course
or the research project.
1.3.
It is the responsibility of the Director of Animal Care to ensure that animals are supplied in accord with the
policies of the Canadian Council for Animal Care and of The University of British Columbia.
