Course Description:
This course covers algebraic concepts including solving multi-step equations and
inequalities, graphing linear equations, solving systems of equations, and simplifying
polynomials.
Classical Approach to US History (Elem)

Course Description:
This class will be a classical learning approach using US history, handwriting and US
geography. Each week a history sentence will be introduced. This sentence will have a
song and actions to help the student recite the sentence. The history sentence will be used
for handwriting during the week. Also, each week there will be a focus on four states and
capitals. During the second semester there will be a focus on major rivers and
mountains. Throughout the year we will be learning a song about the 50 states along
with a song that helps us name the presidents.
Constitutional Literacy

Course Description:
In this class, students will have the chance to study and learn what the framers of the
Constitution intended and some of the ways it has been changed and/or affected.
Students will view a 20 minute video taught by Michael Farris. They will learn
vocabulary and discuss questions provided in the text.

This class is an introduction to the basic skills of American Sign Language-ASL. This
class will develop conversational ability, culturally appropriate behavior and expose
students to ASL grammar. We will learn the manual alphabet, numbers, vocabulary,
commands, questions and statements in ASL.

Course Description:
This is a beginning Spanish class. We will work on vocabulary and beginning grammar.
This is a great way to introduce the language and help prepare your student for high
school Spanish! (This class will not meet High School Transcript requirements.) We
will study cultures and countries in this class. We will learn songs to help with
vocabulary and try new foods! We will be speaking Spanish in class. This is hard
enough on their own, much less in front of peers. There will be no teasing when a
student is asked to read or speak aloud.
Performing Arts for Middle School/High School

This class is open to all middle/high school students who are interested in singing, acting,

Robotics I

Course Description: The Junk Drawer Robotics curriculum has three books. In book 1,
the student will explore the design and function of robotic arms, hands and grippers and
build a robotic arm that really moves! In book 2, the student will design and build
machines that roll, slide, draw or move underwater and explore robot mobilitymovement, power transfer and locomotion. Book 3 is all about the connection between
the mechanical and electronic elements of robots and the student will explore sensors,
write programs, build circuits and design their own robot.

Course Description:
The term video editing can refer to the process of manipulating video images. Once the
province of expensive machines called video editors, video-editing software is now
available for personal computers and workstations. Video editing includes cutting
segments (trimming), re-sequencing clips, and adding transitions and other special
effects.
Writing Process I

Course Description:
The student will use the steps in the writing process to organize and develop ideas in a
paragraph, which lead to the five-paragraph essay using five purposes. Basic grammar,
mechanics, vocabulary will be extended.
CAT (Commons Area Time)

Fees: $10 monthly fee
Description:
Students will use this time for independent study, teacher-assisted study, as well as some
opportunity for roundtable discussion led by the instructor. Students will have
opportunities to listen to guest speakers discussing a profession, college or employer.
This time also includes opportunities for the students to socialize with each other. Snack
area and vending is available. Students may be enrolled in CAT once in the morning and
once in the afternoon.
