STUDY ONE
THE NEW BIRTH
INTORDUCTION
There are two basic ways you can become a member of a family. You are
either born into that family or adopted into it.
The Bible tells of the new Birth as the way to become a member of the
family of God – A child of God (Jn 3:5, Jn 1:12). The new birth ia a spiritual
experience that transforms you from being a child of the devil into a child of
God. It is both spiritual and moral change. By this experience, Christ Jesus
comes to live in your heart by the Holy Spirit. You then begin your
heavenward journey. No one can enter heaven without being born again. It is
a vital experience for all (Jn 3:3-7).
1. There are Certain things that should not be confused with the NEW
BIRTH

Being religious: Acts 10:1-8
Cornelius was a very religious man. He was devout, gave alms, prayed, saw
visions etc. Yet he needed to be born again.
Believing there is God: James 2:19
Our lives must reflect our faith in a Holy God. Just accepting there is God is
insufficient, for the devil too will do that much.
Knowing the Bible: Matthew 4:6
It is not profitable for us if the scriptures we know do not affect our lives
unto Godliness. Remember, the devil too knows the Bible.
Being-self righteous: Isaiah 64:6
It is not our righteousness that can get us to heaven but that of Jesus Christ.
When we think we are the best, God sees us as a filthy rag, except we take on
the righteousness of Christ.
All these things that look like the new birth are good in themselves but
grossly inadequate to save us. You can think of other similar things that look like
the new birth, but are not.
2. What is the NEW BIRTH?

Being saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8-10).
The new birth is the experience of transformation in one’s nature that
comes through genuine repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
3. Why is the NEW BIRTH so important?

Without the new birth, it is impossible for ANYONE to see the kingdom of GOD,
talk less of entering into it. (John 3:3)
ALL (without exception) have sinned and the sure end of every sinner is eternal
death. It is through the new birth alone we can escape hell. (Romans 3:23; 6:23).
Jesus Christ is the ONLY way to God, the father (John 14:6).
It is therefore IMPOSSIBLE for ANYONE to make heaven without being
born again.
4. How can we experience the NEW BIRTH?
Taking these four basic steps sincerely gets a person born again:

Confess your sins to God and sincerely turn away from the sins. Forsake all of
them. (Proverbs 28:13; Isaiah 55:6-7)
Receive Christ by faith into your heart (John 1:12, Romans 10:9-13)
Rejoice and give thanks to God for saving you (Acts 8:35-37)
5. What are the evidence of the NEW BIRTH?

CONCLUSION
If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal savior, you are
born again. Move on in this experience by constantly fellowship with
God in prayer and in the study of the Bible, and also walk with other
believers. You will grow and become mature.
Memory Verse: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature;
old things are passed away behold, all things are become new (2
Corinthians 5:17).
PERSONAL FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD
INTRODUCTION
Having been born again, you have a personal relationship with God,
since you are now a member of His family. A relationship grows on
fellowship. Hence, you need to have a good personal fellowship with God,
if you will ever know Him. The ability of a Christian to stand firmly and
grow in the Lord depends much on his/her personal fellowship with God.
To have a deep knowledge of the ALMIGHTY, your personal fellowship
with Him must be qualitative. It is therefore imperative that you create a
special time of communion with Him everyday.
1. What is Personal Fellowship with God?
Personal fellowship with God can be explained as follows:

Walking in the Light. Obtaining direction from God and walking accordingly

(1 John 2:6).
Understanding and walking worthy of the vocation wherewith we are called
(Ephesians 4:1).
Giving one’s self to prayer and the word of God (Acts 6:4)
In personal fellowship with God, you speak to Him and He too speaks to you.
2. What is the Basis of Personal Fellowship with God?

The cleaning you obtained through the blood of Jesus (1 John 1:6-7)
The peace you have with God, having been justified by faith (Romans
5:1-2)
Ability to worship God in spirit and in truth, having experienced a recreation of your otherwise dead human spirit (John 4:22-24).
Your new birth in Christ is the basis of your personal fellowship with
God.
3. The Quiet Time
a)
You are supposed to be in touch with God at all times. However it is a
good practice t set apart a special time of fellowship with God. It is good
you make this the first activity of the day. The time so set apart is
commonly called “Quiet Time”. This is the secret of a steady spiritual
growth. It is useful you engage in the following activities during your
quiet time.
b) Begin with thanksgiving, praises and worship. Cultivate the habit of
praising God always. (Psalm 100:1-5; 95:6-7; Hebrew 13:15).
c) Study the word of God. When you study and meditate in the word of
God, He speaks to you. As you obey what He tells you in His word, your
life becomes more and more radiant with His Glory. (Joshua 1:8; Psalm
1:1-3; 2 Timothy 2:15; Romans 10:17, John 15:4).
Pray. Pour your heart to God in sincere, fervent prayer; thus speaking to God. Do
not allow any anxiety to build up in your life. Many times in the process of
praying, you will hear a voice speaking to your heart (James 5:16;
Philippians 4:6, 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Matthew 7:7-11).
4. How can you maintain an unbroken Personal relationship with God?

Hid the word of God in your heart to keep you from sin. You must give the
word of God a very good attention. (Psalm 119:9-11; Luke 10:38-40).
Not fellowshipping with unfruitful works of darkness. Do not by any means
be a party to an act of sin (Ephesians 5:11).
Confessing and forsaking any sin you mistakenly fall into immediately. Do not
keep an un-confessed sin in your life once you are convicted by the spirit of
God (1 John 2:1-2).
Longing after God and the things of God at all times (Psalm 42:1-2, Matthew
5:6).
Personal fellowship with God must be taken with all seriousness. Neglect does
an incalculable damage to the believer’s spiritual life.
CONCLUSION
Allow nothing to stand between you and your fellowship with God. Let no day
pass bye without having your quiet time. If by means, you could not make
it in the morning, create another time during the day. Many things will
compete for your attention – Job, social appointments etc.; but make sure
you have a personal time in the presence of God everyday. It is then you
will have the spiritual strength to overcome temptations, know and do the
will of God and live the Christian life victoriously.
Memory Verse: Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch can not bear fruit
for itself except it abide in the vine; no more can ye except ye abide in me.
(John 15:4).
BELIEVER’S FELLOWSHIP
INTODUCTION
When you are born again, you become a member of a family, God’s family. Hence, you are to
share intimately with other members of the same family, particularly in a locality. This gathering
together of the believers is referred to in the Bible as the Church, the assembly of Believers or the
fellowship of Brethrens.
Every believer needs the fellowship of other believers. It is here that we are built together as a
holy habitation of God. A believer that does not fellowship with others misses a lot. This is why you
should understand what the Bible says about believers’ fellowship and identifying with a local church.
1. The Need for Fellowship
a)
To provoke one another to love and good works and to exhort one another to holy living in
preparation for the coming of Christ (Hebrews 10:24-25)
b)
To build up one another’s faith (Romans 10:17)
c)
To enjoy the corporate anointing and all the blessings that come with it (Psalm 133:1-3).
d)
To enjoy quick answers to prayers and greater manifestation of the power of God (Malachi 3:16,
Matthew 18:18-20).
e)
To enhance walking in the fear of God through right association (Psalm 119:63; 1 Corinthians
15:33)
f)
To obey the command of God that we should fellowship with other believers (Hebrew 10:25).
What the family setting is to the proper growth of a child, the church is to the spiritual growth of a believer.
There is no time in a believer’s life that he overgrows being a part of a church. Every believer should
identify with a local church.
2. What to expect in a Believers’ Fellowship (Local Church)
a)
Divine love sharing and the anointing of the holy Spirit (Psalm 133:1; Acts 2:42-47).
b)
The presence and the power of God to save, help and heal (Deuteronomy 23:12-14, 2 Corinthians
6:16)
c)
Power and encouragement to holy living, deliverance and possession of passions (Obadiah 1:17-18).
d)
Confirmation of the word of God in diverse ways and unity among the brethren (Acts 4:31-35).
While you expect to be loved and encouraged in the church, you also owe a duty to other believers to love
them, give to them and to pray for them. It is when you love other believer, which is confirmed that
you have passed from death to life. (1 John 3:14-15). Anyone not walking in love has enough reasons
to doubt his salvation. So make up your mind to walk in love and bless others. It is also part of your
responsibilities to give your substance for the work of the kingdom.
3. Who Do we Fellowship with?
The gathering of believers is more than a social gathering. Whenever we gather’ we share fellowship with:

God the father (1 John 1:3; John 14:23).
b)
God the Son (1 John 1:3; Matthew 18:20)
c)
God the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:9; 2 Corinthians 1:14, 2:1)
d)
The brethren (1 John 1:3; Acts 1:14; 2:1)
4. Whom Not to Fellowship with
You are to cautious of whom you fellowship with. You are not to fellowship with theses sets of people, most
especially if found in the church.
a)
The ungodly, sinners and the scornful (Psalm 1:1)
b)
Workers of inequity, evil doers and the wicked (Psalm 6:8; 26:5)
c)
False teachers (1 Timothy 6:3-5)
d)
The infidel, idolaters and fornicators (1 Corinthians 9:5-11
e)
The disorderly (2 Thessalonians 3:6).
f)
Unbelievers, unrighteousness and Belial (2 Corinthians 6:14)
CONCLUSION
The blessings accruing to the Christian that take believers’ fellowship seriously is enormous. God does not
intend that you do it or go it alone, you the encouragement and support of other members of other
members of God’s family.

WATER BAPTISM
INTRODUCTION
Water baptism is a symbol or a sign of a Christian’s death, burial and resurrection with Christ. It
pictures our severance with the old life; the fact that we have finished with it and we are
satisfied with the new life in Christ Jesus (Romans 6:3-4; Acts 8:36-38). It is an ordinance of
the church commanded by Christ Jesus, our Lord himself It is important for every believer.
There is a lot of confusion and human traditions surrounding water baptism. Let us seek only
what the Bible says (Isaiah 8:20).
1. Salvation does not come through Water baptis
a) We are saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9); not works.
b) It is the blood of Jesus that cleanses us from sin and purchased our redemption (Hebrew 9:22;
Colossians 1:14).
c) Entrance into the kingdom is through genuine repentance (Mark 1:14-15; Acts 3:19)
d) Salvation comes when Christ is confessed in faith (Romans 10:9-10).
e) Power to become a child of God comes by believing in the name of Jesus Christ (John 1:12).
2. What is the Importance of water Baptism?
a) Jesus commanded it (Matthew 28:19-20)
b) It is sign that a man has repented of his sin (Acts 2:38)
c) Jesus Christ, our perfect example partook of this ordinance, thus emphasizing its importance.
Jesus does not engage himself in trivialities (Matthew 3:13-17)
d) Water Baptism is a symbol of identification with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus
Christ. The guilty conscience has been done away with once and for all. A new resurrected
Life begins.
3. When is one qualified to be Baptized?
a) After a genuine repentance evidenced a changed way of life (Acts 2:38, 41)
b) Our Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ must follow the repentance to make it valid (Acts 8:9-13;
Mark 16:16)
4. What is the Mode of Water Baptism?
A lot of human traditions are involved in the mode of water baptism today. Here are some
of the commonly used modes:
(i) Aspersion (Sprinkling)
(ii) Effusion (Pouring)
(iii) Immersion (Dipping/Burying)
Let us see some examples from the scriptures;
a) Jesus Christ was dipped in River Jordan to be baptized
b) Phillip and the Ethiopian Eunuch both went down INTO the water (Acts 8:36-38)
c) We are buried with Jesus in baptism (Roman 6:3-4, Colossians 2:11-12)
The obvious mode set out in the Bible - the word of God is immersion. Anything besides
this should be rejected. It is mere human tradition.
5. The Name in which we are to be Baptized
The name of the father, the son and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19)
CONCLUSION
Water Baptism is a command of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is therefore binding on
every true believer. We should therefore be baptized in obedience to his command.
Memory Verse: “Buried with Him in Baptism, wherein also ye are risen with Him
through the Faith of the operation of God, Who has raised Him from the dead”
(Colossians 2:12).
THE HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM
Text: Joel 2:28-29; Acts 1:8, 2:14-21
INTRODUCTION
A person gets born again by the workings of the Holy Spirit. He is the power given to become sons of God (John 1:12).
However at the new birth, the believer has the Holy Spirit only in a measure. There is another dimension of the
presence of the Holy Spirit in the Christian’s life wherein he is filled with the Holy Spirit. This experience is what
is known as the Holy Spirit Baptism. God has promised a massive outpouring of His Holy Spirit upon all flesh in
these last days in which we are living. Many believers are experiencing this outpouring already. You too can have
a personal encounter with Him today. We however must not be ignorant of who He is and how He operates.
1. The person of the Holy Spirit
a)
He is the comforter. He leads. (John 16:7-13)
b)
He is the Spirit of truth (John 14:15-18)
c)
He testifies (John 15:26-27)
d)
He has emotions. He can be grieved (Ephesians 4:30)
e)
He groans in intercession for us (Roman 8:26-27)
f)
He leads and Speaks (Acts 8:29, 13:2)
The activities/characters of the Holy Spirit outlined above confirms that He is a person. He is not merely an influence or
thing.
2. He is a divine Personality – (GOD)
a)
The Holy Spirit was present at creation (Genesis 1:1-2)
b)
He is the eternal Spirit. Eternity of being is a divine attribute (Hebrews 9:14)
c)
He is omnipotent (Luke 1:35
d)
He is co-equal and co-eternal with the father and the Son (Matthew 29:9, 2 Corinthians 13:14)
3. What the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is not
The baptism of the Holy Spirit is not to be confused with the new birth or regeneration. The disciples at the time of
Jesus were born again before Jesus commanded them to tarry in Jerusalem until they were endued with the
power from on high (Luke 24:49). That we have joy and zeal in doing the word of God or answers to prayers
after conversion does not mean we are baptized in the Holy Spirit. The disciples had all these and more and yet
were not baptized in the Holy Spirit (Until the day of Pentecost).
There was great joy in Samaria when the people of the city accepted the gospel, yet they still needed to be baptized with
the Holy Spirit (Acts 8:8, 14:17). Though the disciples had left all to follow the Lord, they needed to wait for the
promise of the father (Matthew 19:27, Luke 24:49).
4. The Promise of the Father
a) The father promised an outpouring of the Spirit of God upon all flesh in the
last days (Joel 2:28-29).
b) The Lord Jesus referred to the Holy Spirit as the promise of the Father and
the power from on high (Luke 24:49).
c) The Holy Spirit is the river of living waters that flows out of the belly of he
that believes (John 7:37).
The baptism of the Holy Spirit ushers in the power of God in a special dimension
into the life of the believer (Acts 1:8). It is a distinct experience, different
from the new birth (Acts 11:15-17).
5. How to receive the Holy Spirit Baptism
a) You must be genuinely converted and living a pure life (John 3:3-5, 14:17).
b) You must thirst and hunger for it (John 7:37-39; Isaiah 44:3-4).
c) Ask in faith (Mark 11:22-24; Luke 11:9-13)
d) Thank God for filling you (1 Thess. 5:18).
e) Open your mouth to speak as the Spirit gives utterance (Acts 2:4).
6. Evidence of Holy Spirit Baptism
When you receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit, you receive the fullness of
God’s power in your life.. This affects your life and your understanding of the
scriptures, prayers, faith and all aspects of your life drastically.
But the initial physical manifestation that you have received the Holy Spirit is
that you speak in other tongues. This is a common feature of all recorded
cases of the Holy Spirit Baptism in the Bible:
(i) The disciples spoke in languages they never learnt when they were
baptized on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4)
(ii) When Cornelius and his household believed and the Holy Spirit came on
them, they spoke in tongues (Acts 10:44-46).
(iii) When Apostle Paul laid hands on the Ephesians’ disciples, they received
the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues (Acts 19:6)
CONCLUSION
It is necessary and important for every believer to be baptized in the Holy Spirit,
therein lays the power for a stable and effective service for the Lord and
blessing to humanity.
It is not difficult to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit at all. Ask in faith and
you shall receive. This is the time of the latter rain (Zech. 10:1, John 16:2324).
Memory Verse: “But yea shall receive power after the Holy Spirit is come upon
you and you shall be witness unto me both in Jerusalem and in Judea, and
in Samaria unti the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8).
CHRISTIAN GIVING
INTRODUCTION
Christian giving is as vital a spiritual subject as any other, like praying and studying the word of God.
Every Christian is expected to give monetary support to the advancement of the Kingdom of God
here on earth. It is not just the paying of our tithes and giving our offerings, but also we are to give
sacrificially towards the work of God, particularly in places where we receive spiritual help and
nourishment. As we do, we become instrumental in advancing God’s Kingdom, give God the
opportunity to bless us and to lay up for yourself treasures in heaven.
1. God, the greatest giver
John 3:16; 2 Corinthians 8:9; Philippians 2:8; James 1:17; 1 Peter 1:3
God gave us the best He can afford – His only begotten son, Jesus Christ. And in Christ Jus, He gives all
that we need both in this life and hereafter (Ephesians 1:3).
2. God commanded us to give
Romans 12:8; 2 Corinthians 9:7; 1 Peter 4:10; Deut. 16:17
It is a command that we should give for the work of God. It is part of our service to God. We are blessed
to be a blessing to the Kingdom of God.
3. What are we to give?
a)
Money (Acts 4:36-37; Luke 21:1-4)
b)
Landed properties (Acts 4:34)
c)
Precious possessions (1 Chronicles 29:3-4; Ezra 1:6)
d)
Other belongings (Acts 11:29-30)
e)
Give ourselves (Services: 2 Corinthians 12:15)
4. Who are w e to give to?
a)
Our spiritual leaders (Acts 4:34-35; Corinthians 8:3-4)
b)
The men of God (1 Kings 17:13, 15; Matthew 10:41-42)
c)
The house of God (Malachi 3:10; Luke 21:1-4)
d)
The poor and the needy (Matthew 5:42; Luke 12:53; Acts 20:35; Deut.15:7)
5. How are we to give?
a)
We are to give willingly (2 Corinthians 8:12-15)
b)
We should give bountifully (2 Corinthians 9:6)
c)
We are to give according to our ability (1 Corinthians 16:2; 8:12)
d)
We should give as often as we can (Galatians 6:6-10)
e)
We should give cheerfully not grudgingly, with other hearts full of praise to God. (2 Corinthians 9:7)
f)
We should give with simplicity (Romans 8:12)
6. Tithing.
a)
What is tithing? (Genesis 14:18-20, Malachi 3:6-12, Matthew 23:23)
b)
Tithing is paying one tenth of our income to God, as He has commanded
c)
Are Christians supposed to pay tithes today? (Genesis 14:18-20; Romans 15:4, Matthew 23:23). Abraham
before the dispensation of the law gave tithe, while Jesus Christ in the New Testament approved of
tithing. Hence we are to pay tithes, even today.
d)
Where should our tithes go? (Malachi 3:10; 1 Corinthians 9:7-11). We should pay our tithes where we
receive spiritual nourishments.
7. Blessings of giving.
a)
We shall be called the blessed (Malachi 3:12)
b)
We shall have great reward in heaven (Matthew 6:19-21; Luke 16:9-12; 1 Timothy 6:12-19)
c)
God will supply all our needs (Philippians 4:19, Proverb 11:24-25)
d)
God will rebuke the devourer for our sakes (Malachi 3:11)
e)
As we give, God blesses in return (Luke 6:38; Malachi 3:8-12)
CONCLUSION
If we want to be blessed and see the Kingdom of God advance, we must learn to give cheerfully and
sacrificially. When we consider what He has given to us, what can we not give to Him?

HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD
(Exodus 32:30, Hebrew 12:14)
INTRODUCTION
Holiness is an attribute of God. He is holy and expects everyone that is born of Him to holy as well.
God’s word teaches that without holiness no man shall see the Lord (Hebrew 12:14). In
Essence, it means you must be holy if you want to make heaven your home in the end.
Temptations will come; nevertheless you should not yield to them. A temptation itself is not sin. It
is a suggestion to do evil (either in private or in public). But like you may not prevent a bird
from flying over you, you are responsible if it makes a nest of your hair. You do not have to
succumb to the devil’s suggestion to do evil. The source of all temptations is satan.
A life of holiness will launch you into a life of victory. You will be glad in every aspect of life.
There is a special reward for those who overcome temptations (James 1:12).
1. What is meant by Holiness?
a) To fear God and be entirely consecrated to Him (2 Cor7:11)
b) Denying ungodliness and worldly lusts and living soberly, righteously and godly (Timothy
2:11-12
c) Walking in the steps of Jesus (1 John 2:6)
Hence, to be holy means to depart from sin and every work of unrighteousness, fear God and be
entirely consecrated to Him; and to live in purity of heart and life constantly.
2. Why must we live Holy?
a) Because our God is Holy (Leviticus 11:45)
b) That we may serve the Lord without fear (Luke 1:74-75)
c) That we may see God ultimately (Hebrew 12:14)
d) We are commanded to be holy (Peter 1:16)
No holiness, no heaven. If you want to enjoy your Christian life, be happy and be useful in God’s
hand, you must be holy (2 Timothy 2:21). The secret of happiness is holiness.
3. Evidences of Holiness in Believer’s Life
a)
New nature (2 Corinthians 5:17, Ephesians 4:23)

Clean heart (Psalm 15:2-5)
c)
Controlled tongue (James 3:1-5)
d)
Christ-like disposition (Philippians 2:5)
e)
Separation from the world to God (Romans 12:2, 2 Corinthians 7:1)
f)
Obedience to God’s commandments (Exodus 24:7, 1John 2:3-6)
g)
Love for God (Matthew 22:37, 1 John 5:3)
h)
Love for men (1 John 4:19-21)
i)
A good testimony (1 Timothy 3:7)
j)
A clear conscience towards God and to men (Acts 24:16).
4. How can we live a Holy Life?
a)
By definite consecration (Romans 12:1-2). We must make up our mind to present our bodies living
sacrifice to God and break every link with the world.
b)
By a definite prayer of faith. (Matthew 7:7-11). There is nothing prayer cannot do. Weakness is turned to
strength when we pray.
c)
Continuous fellowship in the word of God (Psalm 119:11). The word of God will keep us in the way of
holiness.
d)
Continuous choice of that alone which glorifies God. (1 Corinthians 10:31).
5. Overcoming Temptations
Even if we are living holy lives, temptations will still come. It is therefore needful for us to learn to overcome
temptations whenever they come.

We should know that temptations come from satan, not God. There is no evil in God and does not tempt
any man with evil (James 1:13-14). The experiences of our Lord Jesus Christ (Matthew 4:1) and Eve
(Genesis 3:1) respectively confirm this.

It is easier for us to tempted in three major areas: The lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh and the pride of
life (1 John 2:15, Matthew 4:1-11)
c)
A temptation is not a sin in itself; it is just an invitation to sin. However, a temptation becomes a sin when
the will is yielded to carrying out the evil suggestion (James 1:5). Eve did not sin until she agreed in her
heart to enjoy the benefits of the forbidden fruit, God’s instructions not withstanding (Genesis 3:6).
d)
There are provision for us in the word of God to overcome temptations:

Compassionate help from Christ (Hebrew 2:18)
•
God’s deliverance (2 Peter 2:9)
•
Christ, the divine promise keeper of preservation (Revelation 3:10)
•
The one that is in us is greater than the tempter (1 John 4:4)
•
God provides a way of escape; He does not allow a temptation greater than the measure of His strength in
our personal lives to come our way (1 Corinthians 10:13).
6. When temptation comes:

Remind yourself of the word of God. Engage your mind on positive thoughts (Philippians 4:8).
•
Reject and rebuke the thought very firmly in the name of Jesus (2 Corinthians10:3-6).
•
Resolve to keep your Christian stand (Daniel 1:8; Jeremiah 35:6)
•
Resist the devil and he will flee (James 4:7)
•
Renew your mind continually with the word of God (Romans 12:2)
•
Give yourself to watching and praying (Matthew 6:12, 26:40-41)
•
Praise and magnify the Lord (Deuteronomy 32:27)

Holiness is a life separated from sin and fully consecrated unto God and doing His will. If we will overcome sin,
satan and the world and have your prayers answered and make heaven in the end, you must live a holy life.

INTRODUCTION
Divine healing is accomplished by faith in God, the healer. It is an experience by which God supernaturally imparts life
to afflicted souls and bodies. Sicknesses and diseases are enemies of the human race; they have their source in the
devil.
It is not all the sickness and diseases that can be medically explained. Such are due to direct activities of demons.
Demons can oppress, obsesses and even possess men. The manifestations of their presence in a life are diverse.
Even when sickness lends itself to medical diagnosis, sometimes some direct activities of the demons are
responsible.
The cheering news is whether sickness or demonic afflictions, Jesus Christ, the great physician when went about doing
good still heals and sets free all that are oppressed of the devil. Through an understanding of Biblical principles,
you can obtain complete healing and deliverance in Jesus’ name.
1. The Source of Sickness and Affliction
a)
Sickness and affliction come from satan. God is not the source of any evil (Job 2:7). This is why Jesus was
always healing and delivering people (Acts 10:38). He could not have been undoing the work of God.
b)
There is a direct link between disobedience to God’s word and sicknesses, diseases and afflictions:
•
The fall of man opened the way for the devil to afflict man with all manner of sicknesses (Genesis 3:15-17).
•
Sin opens one’s life to sickness and activities of demons (Psalm 107:17-20, John 5:14).
2. The price has been paid completely.
a)
By Christ’s death on the cross, He atoned for both sin and sicknesses. By His stripes you were healed (Isaiah
53:4-6, Matthew 8:16-17).
b)
You have been delivered from the powers of darkness and translated into the kingdom of God’s dear son
(Colossians 1:13). Demons have no right over you if you are genuinely born again. Hence, by the authority in the
name of Jesus, devils can be cast out (Mark 16:17).
c)
The Lord made a healing covenant that He cannot break (Isaiah 4:6). By His stripes ye were healed. The healing
covers your spirit, soul and body. (Exodus 15:26, 23:25) Our God has revealed Himself as the Jehovah Rapha –
God our healer.
Our healing and total deliverance is God’s will. No matter what the sickness and afflictions are and how long they have
been there. (3 John 2, John 10:10).
3. How God Heals

By anointing of the Holy Spirit (Isaiah 61:1-3, 10:27)
In response to faith. When that woman with the issue of blood touched Jesus by faith and received
healing (Mark 5:25-34).

In response to prayer. Hezekiah was supposed to die of his sickness, but he sought God earnestly in
prayer and God healed him and prolonged his life (Isaiah 38:1-8)
d)
By the ministration of the elders. A prayer of faith and anointing with oil by spiritual elders will save the
sick and secure healing from Jesus for him. (James 5:13-15, Mark 16:17-18).
e)
By the word of God. When you take in the word of God by faith, either through an anointed ministration
or personal study, healing can be received (Psalm 107:20; Acts 14:8-10).
After you have received healing by faith, you have to maintain a positive confession, un-swayed by your
feelings. Sometimes, the manifestation of healing is instant, other times it is not. That the symptoms do not
vanish immediately does not mean you are not healed (Hint: The leaves of uprooted trees do not dry
immediately).
4. Indications of need for deliverance.
a)
Physical affliction in form of sickness and diseases that defy all medical treatment. Sometimes, the
medical science cannot explain the condition (Luke 13:16).
b)
Mental afflictions, like insanity, brain fatigue, inflammations of the brain and epilepsy (Mark 5:1-8; 9:1726).
c)
Emotional afflictions like fear, restlessness, anxiety, hypertension, nightmares, constant distress and
frustrations (2 Timothy 1:7).
d)
Spiritual bondage – demon possession, drug addictions, obsession with sin, lust and evil passion, spiritual
blindness to receiving God’s grace and blessings, strange experiences like eating and having sex in
dreams (2 Corinthians 4:4).
e)
Persistent family problems.
f)
Persistent financial problems.
g)
Being accident/attack prone at all times.
h)
Historical case of suicide.
i)
Repeated pregnancy miscarriages.
j)
Barrenness that cannot be medically explained.
k)
Unusual difficulty in getting a marriage partner. The list of the activities of demons in the lives of men is
inexhaustible. Anything that does not make your joy to be full is included in the list. Often, such things
cannot be explained by usual rules.

Renounce all involvement in occultism (loudly) and pledge allegiance to Jesus (Acts 19:19-20).

Ask in faith for your complete deliverance in the name of Jesus (John 14:13, Mark 11:24).

Stand on the word of God and command the devil and his demons to take their hands from your life. Be very firm and
determined.

You have been redeemed from every curse, every handwriting against you has been nailed to the cross (Galatians

form of demonic affliction. As you cling to the name of Jesus, the blood of Jesus and the word of God, you can be
completely free. “If the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed” (John 8:36.

THE JOY OF SERVING THE LORD
(Matthew 4:10)
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of our creation is worship and service unto the Lord God. (Matthew 4:10). We are to fulfill
this purpose perfectly when we are redeemed. The reason the deliverance from Egypt as spiritual
Israel is to serve the Lord our God (Deuteronomy 10:12). In service lies our fulfillment.
It is very clear from the scriptures that every thing a man does goes into eternal record. And only that
which was done for the Lord counts in the light of eternity. An earthly toil may attract a reward, but
only on earth; whereas God pays the faithful “servant” both in this world and in that to come. A day
of judgment is coming when every believer will stand before the judgment seat of Christ to give
account of things done during his sojourn on earth.
No one should ever be idle, but actively involved in the work of the kingdom, there are many areas you
can be involved. Seek opportunities to build in God’s kingdom, be useful in the Lord’s vineyard.
This will also accelerate your spiritual growth.
1. Areas in which you can serve
a)
Personal Evangelism: This is the person to person sharing of the gospel message with a view to
leading the individual to Christ. It has to be approached with a sense of utmost seriousness for three
principal reasons:
Should the sinner die and go to hell, as a result of your negligence, God will require his blood
from your hand (Ezekiel 33:7-9).
There is no other way by which a man can be saved apart from the gospel of Christ (Mark
16:16, Acts 4:12)
The gospel is part of our spiritual armor (Ephesians 6:15).
Be a witness unto the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 1:8). A delay is very dangerous (John 4:35, Matthew 9:30).

Prayer: It is your duty and obligation to expand the kingdom of God through prayers and
intersession. Pray for conversion of souls, other believers, men of God and the progress of the work
(Psalm 2:8)
Giving: The giving of your substance for the advancement of the kingdom of God. Give money
(after paying your tithes), houses, land, cars, your time and skills, etc; anything you can afford. It
takes sacrificial giving to advance the work. (Acts 4:34-37).
Serving in the House of the Lord: There are abundant opportunities to serve in the house of the
Lord in various capacities. You can join any of the units in the church. Make sure you are not idle.
Invest your time, skill, talents and gifts.
2. Benefits of Serving Your God
a)
Divine Healing and Health: As a result of serving the Lord, you are kept in sound health so that you
can be more effective and your life brings glory and fruits to God (Exodus 23:25).
b)
Divine Protection: You are protected from every satanic attack. This is a heritage reserved for the
servants of the Lord. It is a sort of heaven’s immunity (Isaiah 54:17).
c)
Prosperity and Abundance: As you serve the Lord with joy, he releases divine prosperity upon you.
It may not happen immediately, but as you continue in your faithful service, there will certainly be
a breakthrough (Isaiah 1:19, Job 36:11).
d)
His Abiding Presence: The presence of the Lord goes with you as you serve Him. He anoints you to
be a blessing. He reveals Himself from time to time and brings encouragement when the going is
rough (Matthew 28:20, Exodus 33:14).
e)
Honor: God Himself honors you. (John 12:26) There is a double honor you enjoy by virtue of
service (1 Timothy 5:17).
f)
Divine Promotion: As you follow and serve the Lord, He progressively promotes you, spiritually
and in all areas of your life (Matthew 4:19). The promotion continues until you sit with Him on the
throne (Revelation 3:21).
3. The Coming Judgment.
a)
Life is a Period of Probation: The lifetime of a man is a time of probation at the end of which
comes judgment. Both the righteous and the wicked shall be judged. Every wicked that ever lived
the earth will face a trial before being consigned to the lake of fire for eternity at the “White Throne
Judgment” (Revelation 20:11-15, Acts 17:31). Every believer too will be judged (2 Corinthians
5:10; Romans 14:10). But the purpose of the believer’s judgment is both to examine individual’s
work and determine his rewards:
• Works, both good and bad shall be judged (1 Corinthians 3:11-15)
• Even giving a cup of cold water will attract a reward (Mark 8:41)
• Doctrine shall be judged (Romans 2:14-16)
• Idle works shall be judged (Matthew 12:32-37)
• Broken promises and wrong dealings will be judged (Romans 1:29-32; 1 Corinthians 6:9-20).
• Loose living, neglected opportunities, wasted talents shall be judged (Galatians 6:1-10, 1
Corinthians 4:5)
b)
The Eternal Rewards: The benefits received on earth for serving the Lord are mere
“fringe benefits”. There are eternal rewards in form of crowns:

Crown of Life (James 1:12)
Crown of Righteousness (2 Timothy 4:8). This is for faithfulness in divine service. This is
better for the believer that endures temptations and persecutions and overcome them.
Such did not allow any distraction or opposition to prevent him from serving the Lord.
The Incorruptible Crown (1 Corinthians 9:25): Everyone that runs the race with joy and
faithfully finishes his course on earth shall receive this crown.
The Souls Winner’s Crown or Crown of Rejoicing: (1 Thessalonians 2:19). The one who
wins souls and turns others from darkness to light.
The Crown of Glory: (1 Peter 5:4) This Crown is for leaders, elders and ministers who do
their jobs dutifully well, feeding the flock of God and watching over the souls of men.
CONCLUSION
Everyone should therefore be involved in divine service. Invest everything you have and
are. Do not look at anybody’s attitude except it will encourage you to serve better. We
shall individually stand before the judgment seat of Christ. Your works shall be
rewarded.

HEAVEN OUR HOME
INTRODUCTION
The words “heaven” and heavens are used in the scriptures. The word heavens in the scriptures denoted the clouds,
firmament, sky, expanse of stars and so on; while the heaven of God which is heaven of heavens is the planet
where God dwells with His innumerable company of angels, the spirits of just men made perfect, and the Lord
Jesus Christ.
Before Jesus went away to heaven, He promised His disciples that He would come again to receive us unto Himself, so
that where He is, there we shall be also. No one knows the day, or the hour, not even the angels, neither Christ
Himself; but the father only. God’s people therefore are to know the times and seasons; for that day is not to
overtake them unawares, as a thief in the night. The catching up of true believers (both dead and alive) to meet
with the Lord in the air and remaining with Him forever is what is called Rapture (John 14:1-3, Luke 21:34-36, 1
Thessalonians 4:13-17). Let us take a brief look at the rapture before looking at the ultimate home of all believers
(Heaven).
1. How, When, Would the Rapture Happen?
a)
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet (1 Corinthians 15:23; 51-58).
b)
As a thief in the night, at the coming of the Lord with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, with the trumpet
of God (1 Thessalonians 4:13-17; 5:1-2).
c)
At the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, our bodies will be transformed (Philippians 3:20-21; Titus 2:11-14).
d)
Sudden as a snare (Luke 21:34-36).
The rapture will be in the twinkling of an eye and like a thief in the night. It will take place before the great tribulation
(Luke 17:26-30).
There are precedents to the rapture in the scriptures:
(i) Enoch was taken by God (Genesis 5:24).
(ii) Elijah was taken to heaven in a chariot of fire (2 Kings 2:11-12)
2. What Qualifies one for the Rapture?
a)
Holiness (Hebrew 12:14)
b)
A life of purity after committing one’s life to Jesus (1 John 3:1-3; John 1:12)
c)
Continual purging of oneself of all impurities by the word of God (Ephesians 5:27; 1 Corinthians 5:7)
Every believer has to ensure he goes in the rapture by living a consistent life in the Lord. It is only those whose
garments are un-spotted that will go at the rapture. Anyone that is not born again cannot partake of this glorious
experience (John 3:3).
But what a joy it is to make it to the end.
3. The Glories of Heaven.
a)
Perpetual fellowship with God (1 Corinthians 12:13; 1 John 3:2)

Rest from labor (Revelations 14:13)
c)
Full knowledge (1 Corinthians 13:12)
d)
Absolute holiness (Revelations 21:21)

Joy in abundance (Revelations 21:14)

Eternal weight of glory (2 Corinthians 4:17; Colossians 3:4)

Worship to God for eternity Revelations 19:1; 7:9-12).
4. Some facts about Heaven.
The bible mentions there are heavens (2 Corinthians 12:1-4) and these are:
(i)The Clouds or firmament (Genesis 1:8-9; Job 26:8)
(ii)The space (including the solar system) – Genesis 6:14-19, 15:5
(iii)The planet heaven, the dwelling place of God and the eternal home of all true believers
(Genesis 11; 2 Corinthians 12:1-4, John 14:1, Revelation 21).
From the revelation of the word of God, these can be said about Heaven (our Home)
a)
It is a safe deposit for treasures (Matthew 6:20)
b)
It has the register of all saints of God (Luke 10:20)
c)
There is room for every believer (John 14:2)
d)
It is built by God Himself (2 Corinthians 5:1, Hebrews 11:10)
e)
It is the final home of the redeemed from all nations (Revelations 7:9, 21:1)
f)
Nothing that defiles can get there (Revelations 21:8 & 27)
5. What Should Be Our Attitude Knowing that Heaven is Our Home?
a)
Adorning ourselves with a meek and quiet spirit towards God (1 Peter 3:3)
b)
Looking up with expectation (Hebrews 11:10)
c)
Being always steadfast, immoveable, abounding in the work of the Lord (1 Corinthians 15:58, Matthew
24:13, Mark 13:13)
The one looking forward to a place in heaven must be sure he is born again. No one that is not born again can
see the kingdom of God (John 3:3-5)
6. The Joy of making Heaven our Home.
a) No more sorrow (Revelation 21:4)
b) No more crying (Revelation 21:4)
c) No more pain (Revelation 21:4)
d) No more curse (Revelation 22:3)
e) Fellowship with God forever (1 Thessalonians 4:16)
f) Escaping eternal damnation (Matthew 3:12, Luke 21:36)
g) Being glorified with Christ (Colossians 3:4)
CONCLUSION
Heaven is real. God has made heaven as the final home of all His
faithful saints. Every believer in Christ must strive to make heaven
by walking before the Lord in holy living. Anyone that misses
heaven misses everything in this life an in that which is to come.
