Williams/Grieb Newsletter Week of Aug. 18-22, 2014 Newsflash **YEAH! We have made it to the 2nd week of school and students are adapting well. Mon., Aug. 18: BeeSmart Tutoring begins (2:55-3:30pm): This is a time for students to get extra**help from their teacher on homework or topics discussed in class. This is during dismissal time so PLEASE make sure your child is getting the extra support…Thanks! This will be the 5th grades policy on AR for each nine weeks: 2 A.R. Books - 1 Fiction and 1 Non-Fiction 2 A.R. based Reading projects per nine weeks -1 Fiction and 1 Non-Fiction Please collect and send in Box Tops! They help us provide needed items for the classroom….THANKS!! **BATHROOM BREAKS: PLEASE HELP!! We are having an ongoing concern in reference to bathroom breaks. Students are given at least 2-3 bathroom breaks throughout the day. However, we do realize emergencies do occur and we do our best to accommodate these situations. Excessive bathroom breaks tend to interrupt instructional learning time. PLEASE talk with your child to help us keep bathroom breaks at a minimum. If your child has a medical condition PLEASE let us know, otherwise we will be following our regular class schedule. We want to optimize learning, but we need the cooperation of parent/student and teachers to achieve this goal……Thanks in advance!! Students will receive grades in each subject according to the following categories and weights (percent category makes up of total grade): Quizzes……………….20% Test/Projects…………30% Mrs. Grieb’s Reading/Writing/SS Reading: ** We are continuing to read the Novel: Steal Away Home. Ask your child to tell you about it…It’s a GREAT story!! **There will be vocabulary to study and a Quiz on the words Friday, 8/22. **AR book #1: NEEDS to be finished Monday, 8/18 and tested on before our visit to the library, Wednesday, 8/20. **Wednesday, 8/20 book report due. AR book #2 MUST be finished on or before Tuesday, 9/2…Thanks! Writing: ** We will be improving our writing with short responses throughout the week. Social Studies: ** We will finish up on how to be an effective citizen. Look for worksheets in the SS section of your child’s binder. There will be a Quiz on Tuesday, 8/19. Your child should study and be prepared…Thanks! **We will begin the Bill of Rights next week. Mrs. Williams Math/Science Math Update: ** Whew, it’s been exciting learning Partial Products! **This upcoming week: We will continue Division and work on other methods to divide. Look for: Doubling Method in your child’s interactive notebooks. **Homework: Homework is assigned each Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights. Students will have lots of time during BeeSmart tutoring time: 2:55-3:30 to complete homework and get help from their teacher. **Please note: Division Quiz, Friday, 8/22. Also, PLEASE review multiplication facts daily with your child. This is soooo important for their success in MATH….THANKS!
