Monday, August 25:
Fundraiser information will be sent home with
students. You support will be GREATLY appreciated! 
BeeSmart Tutoring begins (2:55-3:30pm): This is a time for students to get extra help from
their teacher on homework or topics discussed in class. This is during dismissal time so PLEASE make
sure your child is getting the extra support…Thanks!


This will be the 5th grades policy on AR for each nine weeks:
2 A.R. Books - 1 Fiction and 1 Non-Fiction
2 A.R. based Reading projects per nine weeks -1 Fiction and 1 Non-Fiction
Please collect and send in Box Tops! They help us provide needed items for the
classroom….THANKS!!
**BATHROOM BREAKS: PLEASE HELP!! We are having an ongoing concern in reference to bathroom breaks. Students are given at
least 2-3 bathroom breaks throughout the day. However, we do realize emergencies do occur and we do our best to accommodate these
situations. Excessive bathroom breaks tend to interrupt instructional learning time. PLEASE talk with your child to help us keep bathroom
breaks at a minimum. If your child has a medical condition PLEASE let us know, otherwise we will be following our regular class
schedule. We want to optimize learning, but we need the cooperation of parent/student and teachers to achieve this goal……Thanks in

Reading/Writing/SS
Reading:
** AR # 2: Must be read and tested by Tuesday, 9/2. The countdown is listed in the assignment book.
**HW: Reading Comprehension Worksheet, Wed., 8/27 & Thurs., 8/28. Due following morning of each assigned
day.
**Study: Steal Away Home, vocabulary daily. Quiz Friday, 8/29.
**Exciting News: Author Lois Ruby will be visiting our school, 9/26. A flyer will be coming home about
purchasing some of her books. Each copy purchased prior to 9/12/14, will be autographed by Lois Ruby.
Language Arts: We are currently working with the students on the writing process including
constructed response and essays. While we are in the process of instruction, there will be few grades
posted in Language Arts. As the year progresses and students complete graded assignments, grades will be
posted.
Writing:
** Opinion writing is our focus for the week.
Social Studies:
** We will continue to work on the Bill of Rights, ask your child to tell you about the first 10-Amendments... You
will be AMAZED by what they know !

Math Update:
** Wow, your child should be able to divide with noooo problem !
We have spent lots of time reviewing division.
**This upcoming week: We will begin Order of Operations~(Pbb-E-M-D-A-S). Look for examples, video and printable
directions on completing Order-of-Operations on my webpage!!! 
**Homework: Homework is assigned each Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights. Students will have lots
of time during BeeSmart tutoring time: 2:55-3:30 to complete homework and get help from their teacher.
**Please note: Order of Operation Quiz, Friday, 8/29 Also, PLEASE review multiplication facts daily with your child.
This is soooo important for their success in MATH….THANKS!

**Please note: Inquiry Skills Vocabulary Quiz/Lab Saftey Rules Quiz has been changed AGAIN due
to students’ preparedness for this Quiz, to next Friday, August 29, 2014….PLEASE ensure your
